Hello Everyone,

Welcome to Saturday Savers Club with Susie-Saver!

Festive Savings - LBI Giveaway

Well, Saturday Savers just six weeks to go until the Challenge and the Festive Season is gearing up. We're going to have a little giveaway for the next two weeks. This week we want to know your top tips for savings on gifts. Next week, we'll be looking at your tips for savings on food, drink and decorations over the festive period.

So, what are your top tips for economical gifts that bring pleasure? I've seen a couple of brilliant ideas:

  • using hot chocolate as a base, add your own flavourings, pack in a pretty jar, add a ribbon and label with instructions how to make up.
  • another one was making little gift baskets with hand-knitted or crocheted guest towels and face cloths.

I remember as a youngster at this time of year, we were busy at the family clubs I belonged to making gifts to sell at the Christmas Fayre. Bath Salts (crushed soda crystals plus essential oils and some food colouring) and Peppermint Creams (icing sugar mixed to a thick paste plus peppermint oil and some food colouring - notice a theme? 😂) were favourite, the results packed in jars or boxes with tissue paper and ribbons around the outside.

Next door, my great aunt was always in charge of a stand called "Bunty Pulls the String", a variation on Lucky Dips, with one box with presents for boys, each one wrapped and with a long string attached, and another with presents for girls. You'll never guess the colour of the boxes! One of my duties was wrapping all the little gifts donated by members of the community and adding the strings.

Tells us any childhood memories about this time of year for added giveaway goodness 😍.

Now then - this week's winners!

Every week, you have the chance to win EDS tokens for commenting. Last week we had comments from @ericburgoyne @bearmol @justclickindiva @jfang003, @bashadow and @riandeuk.

Okay, everyone who commented last week went into the WheelofNames and we have two winners: @jfang003 and @bearmol - check your wallets winners - yay!

- Congratulations!

Thank you for taking part in Saturday Savers Club, everyone!

What's been happening in your world this week? anything exciting or fun? Tell us in the comments - you could win some EDS tokens 😁.

More about EDS tokens

EDS tokens are a low-risk income token, ideal for people who want to save. There were only 20,000 originally and they were all sold at 1 Hive each, with guaranteed earnings of 12% each year. You can now acquire EDS tokens through the EDS Miner token.

Earnings come from powering up and leasing out the Hive that came from selling the tokens, plus earnings from posts and comments each week. EDS pays out every Monday evening. Last week the pay out was equivalent to 23%.

556 EDS Miner tokens left!

Back to business ...

We're going to be here every Saturday through the year growing a little savings honey pot, if you have plans for saving or getting to a different place this time next year - maybe $5 Hive by the end of the year 🤑?

Whatever it is, stick with Susie Saver through the year and we'll get there. Along the way, we'll share lots of tips and tricks for saving and how to get the knack of making your money work for you and not the other way round.

Let's Get Started

We're using the 365 Penny A Day Challenge framework for the Saturday Savers Club. We're aiming to save £667 worth of pennies by the end of the year.

Okay, let's check in ...

1. Check Progress

Each week, we're going to check in through this post and see where we are up to. Our target for today, 13 November, was 22.98p. Next week, we'll be saving 23.47p and by Saturday we'll have saved 529.25p (that's 52,925p just compounding a penny a day)! 😁.

Each week, I'll be buying Hive for @susie-saver's account with the pennies we've saved.

Here's this week's results - 22.98p buys 27.75 Hive.
1070 Hive powered up in 46 weeks and the remainder invested in EDS and EDSM! Plus we're earning 3.22% inflation on powered up Hive, 20% on EDSM, 23% on EDS tokens and a little on curating and posting!

How much did you save this week? Did you meet your target? Or did you save even more?

Being accountable to another person or a group is a great way to motivate yourself to save (or anything you want to achieve). Of course, you need the right kind of people around you - ones that think what you're trying to do is worth doing ... or at least fun 😁.

Sign up here with us to start your savings journey:

2. The Golden Pig Tip

Every week, we're going to share a Golden Pig Tip for saving. By the time you've tried them all you'll have £670 saved.

This Week's Golden Pig Tip

For the end of the year, we will continue to promote the EDS income token fund. Here's how you can help:

  • Vote for @eddie-earner posts - all Hive, HBD and H-E token rewards on posts are powered up to grow the EDS fund and increase the Hive income that is given out every week - it's the magic of compounding combined with a virtuous circle combined with time! Never miss a post by setting up an autovote with Hive.Vote.
  • Carry a little notice about Saturday Savers Club and EDS in your signature at the bottom of every post (See below for sample text and check the bottom of @shanibeer's posts for an example).
  • Write your own post now and then about the Saturday Savers Club and EDS and why you are involved or talk about it in your monthly Hive Power Up Day post.

SAMPLE NOTICE TEXT

No real savings on he Hive-Engine side of things for me. Just the opposite, I sold a few, in order to buy a few, and to start building for my 10,000 HP push next month.

For gift savings I really do not have much to offer on how to save money.

Getting closer now, enough liquid Hive for one hive a day power up for the Hive monthly power up badge, and with regular earnings should be there at the end of the year.
268.149 HP to go.

How nice you have enough Hive to participate in the PUM. I'm participating also. I only HivePUD 21 liquid on HPUD day, then the remaining 29 days at 1 hive each.

Good to hear you're almost at 10K HP. That's an accomplishment.

I had to sell off a lot of Hive-Engine tokens, but I want to have some liquid Hive for the next couple of months. PUM badge is going to be a very hard badge to get, but so far I think I am on schedule with 14 days and 14 1 Hive power ups. I did not have enough Hive for the PUD day last month, but I should have some for December even if it is just the small bee.

It's good you're steady and consistent with your cublife monthly buy-in. I've missed a few, then other investment opportunities creep up during the month. I promised myself I'd participate in Nov.

Hope all is well and the therapy is progressing on target. Take care.

Thanks for the EDS token.

As for a tip, I suggest buying things early. If you buy them before the holiday season, things tends to be cheaper. You can also buy things in bulk and try to buy things that last a bit longer food-wise.

Well, I do own a few EDS tokens I bought way back when, and it was with the intention of just stashing away any income in my Hive Savings... it's not much, but every penny counts!

FESTIVE SAVINGS - LBI Giveaway

Hello everyone. I'm not much of a arts and crafts person, but below are my tips for buying those festive gifts for the holidays:

1. Credit Union Savings Account
When I was working, in January of each year, our credit union allowed its members to open up a Christmas Savings Account. Our bi-weekly deposits were taken directly from our paychecks. One caveat...couldn't withdraw any funds from it until after September 30th.

I would participate each year. It was amazing how much I saved by 9/30. First I'd set a goal for the amount I wanted to spend on that year's gifts. During September, I'd compile a list of all retailers, coupon,s and items I wanted from each store.

On October 1st, it was so satisfying to go to the credit union teller and withdraw my 1st installment on October 1st to start my purchasing early. As I finished each retailer and items, I'd check them off my list.

2. Monthly purchases of bulk items
During the year, I'd also purchase items if they were on sale and store them. At discount stores that allow bulk purchases, I routinely visit stores monthly to gather items for stocking stuffers or to place in gift boxes or baskets. I'd store them away until I began assembling the gift baskets. I routinely give giant gift bags for each person. In it would be items of necessity, plus:

  • fragrant candles
  • perfumes
  • bath and body items
These items would routinely placed on sale during different times of year, such as changing seasonally. It was a good way to buy in bulk favorite fragrances.

3. Divide and conquer
Have you ever purchased a gift basket; then took it apart and reassembled it into separate gift baskets? Well, this is exactly how I give popular items to several people on my list according to their tastes.

I learned this while purchasing items for our family reunion in creating gifts for over 200 family members. It works!

Take care.

Some awesome ideas here. The festive season is approaching for real.

A friend of our used to host a christmas party every year where guests would buy one gift and put it under the tree. One of the highlights of the party was to have everyone choose gifts from under ther tree. The process started by choosing an alphabet card to determine the order in which gifts would be chosen. After choosing a gift it could be “stolen” twice by anyone else interested in that gift. This was of course explained to everyone before the game started so there would be no hard feelings.
