Hello Everyone,

How has your week been? Have you survived the storms? How are your savings going? We welcome some new savers to the club this week: @omarcitorojas, @heypuch and @youyowi! Remember to visit them and spread a little love with an upvote or two. Welcome everyone!

March 2022 - NO-BUY Month

From 1-31 March, we are running a NO-BUY Month here. This is a great way to check exactly how you are spending money, and to see if you can boost your savings by being extra-focused for a month. Find out more about doing a NO-BUY month in this post.

Even when you're a seasoned saver, sometimes things slip or there are changes in the external world that throw you off course. Right now in England, we are facing large increases in fuel, power and food. A NO-BUY Month provides a great opportunity to review how you do things and whether you want to make any changes.

In preparation for March, I've had a look at my expenses and set myself a budget for what I can buy and what is definitely a NO-NO-BUY.

NO-BUY RULES

Allowable Expenses

  • Housing costs - rent or mortgage, utilities, local taxes, insurance etc.
  • Fresh food - but aiming to use up pantry and freezer items.
  • Eating out - 4 times in the month (includes coffee shops and going to the pub)
  • Entertainment - Audiobook subscription
  • Essential repairs and replacements
  • Two new items of clothing

NO-BUY Items

  • No shop-bought non-essential treats.
  • No yarn, fabric, books, patterns, notions, stationery or cosmetics.
  • No new items of furniture, housewares, technology.
  • No seeds, plants or gardening items.

That's my pledge for March. You can read @justclickindiva's pledge here. What's your pledge for the NO-BUY Month? You can write in the comments below or write a post and earn some more rewards for your savings! 🤑

365 Day Savings Challenge

It's Week 8 on our savings plan and we've added 3.29 Hive to @susie-savings wallet - we're up to 12.75 Hive already! 🤑

EDS for Comments

We had comments from @justclickindiva, @riandeuk, @lauramica, @dkid14, @phoenixwren, @yeckingo1, @jfang003, @ericburgoyne, @bearmol, @alexvan, @benthomaswwd, and @carlynn. Everyone went into the WheelofNames and we have two winners: @ericburgoyne and @alexvan - hurrah! check your wallets.

Savings Goals

We've added some more savings goals and savings posts to the table. Leave a comment below with a link if you've done a savings post or settled on your savings goals for this year - it can take a while to decide your aims, so take your time and let us know when you're ready 😍

PS check that I have your goals correctly in the table or if I've missed you

Remember for success - Start Small, Start Today

It can be any day, and it can be any day when you've had a break and want to start again.

  • the best way to build wealth is to save small amounts regularly.

If you know anyone else who is interested in saving, please do tell them about the Saturday Savers Club, we love meeting people, sharing ideas and supporting each other. I'm already on a no-buy for 6 months but I flopped already by purchasing one item 🤭

Hello. It's the effort that counts. Good thing is you can always restart.

Wow, 6 months no-buy is awesome. I don't know if I can attempt that. Maybe I'll gradually move toward that. In 2021, I successfully completed 2 months straight in the Club.

These two months that have passed I have bought only what is necessary. And my year-end goal with this savings system is to acquire a vehicle.

Buying a vehicle is a great goal to have 😍.
How much do you hope to save? Some of us are aiming for 667.95 Hive or HBD.

Congratulations to the winners!
March without shopping? I'm in. I am a technology addict so my challenge will be not to buy anything technological during the month of March.
My savings week went well, I'm still a little below the weekly average but it's better than expected and in the second half of the year I think I will easily exceed the weekly average.

Haha, I wonder how much we shall be able to save? 😁
You're saving every week, so that is the main thing, and I agree, it will get easier as the year passes. 😍

I think I have already been part of a no-buy for a few months so far. Outside of living expenses, I haven't really purchased anything and I am still playing my backlog of games purchased in the past.

Yes, I had to struggle to think about what I would not buy!
I would like to review my house spending, though. I have a feeling a few pounds could be saved there. I know my house insurance was much more expensive this year. I must remember to hunt around for a better price before it is due, next time.
Which games are you enjoying?

Well...I was finishing up some JRPGs such as Trials of Cold Steel 4. As I wanted to complete everything, I am almost done with the game but it's around 100 hours of gameplay so far. The challenging part was the early part of the game and the rest just seem to be a cake walk. I do walk around talking to the NPCs because the world building in that series is great.

I love the challenge of March without purchases, I did a small personal challenge of February without a credit card, and it was difficult to take, there are still days of February to face haha, but I'm doing very well, I just didn't use it, and I'm also firm In my savings challenge, there are small weekly steps that will give me security for the future. I want to invite someone @nitsuga12 who is also a great saver to the savings challenge.

Thank you for the win !! Everything on track for me in the savings area. As for the no buy month that I am going to pass on this time as my better half is in the hospital so she will be wanting treats and things as she will get bored before she gets to come home. Hope everyone had a great week of savings. Have a great week all

Hello @stickupboys, good to see you here 😍.
EDS, @eddie-earner's token, is an income token.
When you hold some, you receive a payout (income) in Hive every Monday.
It works by pooling together all the Hive that has been used to purchase the tokens (and from post payouts, airdrops etc) and investing it or leasing it to create an income. Each EDS is roughly pegged to 1 Hive, I believe there are quite a few for sale under 1 Hive (or you can put in a buy order) on Hive-Engine at the moment.
You can also mine EDS by buying a miner token, EDSM.
EDSM has a return of 20% each year, EDS is about 22%.
I just bought another 100 EDS with a windfall I had.
You're very welcome to join the Saturday Savers Club, we're here every weekend through the year.

Hello Fellow Savers,
Congratulations 🎈 to the beneficiaries of SSC tokens.

This week I'm at 1049HP on my way to 2000HP by year end. To that end I've invested in a few passive income tokens namely UTOPIS, SPI and EDS.

Here is the link to my weekend Report. Check it out.

I had to think then what SSC tokens were 😂.
Great to see your progress, we have a lovely group of savers building on our work from last year. How did you decide which tokens to invest in?

Lol sorry about that @shanibeer . Saturday Savers Club tokens.
During the course of last year I received several SPI and EDS from the Saturday Savers Club so I am aware of the consistency in dividend payouts. I also received one UTOPIS from @justclickindiva last year. I've been observing the payouts since then. Unfortunately I had to sell all those tokens to reach my HP goal at the end of the year.
So, now that I'm past that goal I've decided to reinvest in the tokens I became familiar with through my interactions in the SSC.

Hello. I'm in the South, so no storms; however a slight cold spell attempted to visit.

Here is my Week 8 progress report:

Welcome new members" @omarcitorojas, @heypuch and @youyowi. So happy you could join us. I'll visit your savings posts soon.

Congratulations to @ericburgoyne and @alexvan on winning in the WheelOfNames.

Yes, I joined in the upcoming March No-Buy-Month. I wrote a separate post on my do's and don't for spending. I totally forgot to add a summary in my Week 8 post and link to it.
UPDATE. I was able to get the ice cream reduced from 3 bi-weekly to 2. Oh happy day! Not only does it save, but will definitely extend one's longevity.

@shanibeer, you mention above:

"It's Week 7 on our savings plan..."

Take care everyone. Have a good rest of your weekend.
