AskLeo: How did you arrive to LeoFinance?

To successfully onboard new users it might be interesting to learn how some of us arrived to HIVE and/or to LeoFinance.

askleof.jpg

Of course, we all have different backgrounds and very different stories, I believe that by taking a look to the past we will find key things that brought us here. This can help all the users promoting HIVE or LeoFinance to onboard new users successfully. I will share my story and some of my background this could be useful to onboard more people that have similar interests as me.

I have always been good with technology, I started using computers since I was very young. My journey for financial freedom and the creation of passive started when I was 20 years old, I'm 33 years old now. I heard about Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining around 2014 and it caught my attention but I never invested, I did not have enough money, and I was focused on other things at the moment.

The idea of creating a blog crossed my mind several times and I even tried it with not a lot of success. As I wrote here I participated in a couple of Network Marketing or Multilevel Marketing companies before I quit for good almost three years ago. In 2016, I also started to learn about SEO and I did a couple of websites that I was able to rank in the first page of Google, I wanted to create a digital marketing agency but things did not turn out as I thought.

image.png

This is a screenshot of my first Steemit post.
My first post was on January 5, 2018

In the first days of January 2018 I saw a Facebook ad where someone was promoting “steemit.com”, I saw it a couple of times and I thought it was too good to be true. Facebook ads are sometimes shown several times to the same user so after I saw it like three times I decided to take a look and because there was no investment I thought that I had nothing to lose.

After spending sometime blogging I figure out that this was the place for me and as I have said many times it was a dream come true for me. If I'm not mistaken close to the end of 2018 or in the first few months of 2019 tokenized tribes started to pop and several Hive-Engine tokens began obtaining their first investors.

I knew about LeoFinance, which was called SteemLeo at that time but I never dive into this tribe as I thought I didn't haven anything good to share.

Forwarding to March 2020. HIVE was born, since I heard of the idea of moving out of the centralized STEEM, I was all in. I remember that I read about the birth of HIVE when I was on my way home from a job I hated, it was on a call center. I saw a good opportunity and I decided to quit that job to focus 100% on HIVE. The pump came and went and I kept blogging and creating engaging in many communities. With some friends we created @hivemexico.

Some months ago I started seeing all the good things that were happening to LeoFinance, I was a curious outsider and was not yet interested enough to join. Two and a half weeks ago I’m not sure why I started reading content on the leofinance.io UI and I started making lots of comments. I learned about initiative 10 where everyone is challenged to make at least 10 comments a day on the LeoFinance UI. After some thought I was convinced and I decided to start posting here.

image.png

Today I have more than 2,300 LEO staked and I have made nine posts (including this one), and I have made at least 250 comments. Tomorrow we will see the @leo.stats and I hope to have at least 140 comments for this week, last week I made 131 comments, and I was on sixth place.

How did you arrive to HIVE or LeoFinance?

If you want to share your story in a comment you are welcome, I will read them all and reply to them. You don’t have to add as many details as I did, you can just share the most important things. Also, if you want to make a post feel free to do it and share it in the comments. If you are sharing how you arrived to LeoFinance please make the post from the LeoFinance.io UI.

Stay tuned because there will be a very cool initiative soon involving LeoFinance.

Awesome. I am not that old with Hive/Steem. I managed to get into Leofinance as part of the exploration of second layer applications on Hive. I was always interested in blogging and creating contents. I tried many other blogging platforms and found Hive through grapevine comments.

Nice! Like me, you were already looking for ways to earn while blogging. Was it easy or difficult to find Hive?

This will be a rather boring answer, but it's actually very simple for me.

I was hesitant and did not bother much with LeoFinance (Steemleo) when it first launched and I was sitting on the fence for a rather long period of time.. After lurking for a decent amount of time rather recently, I decided to dive right in and I have not regret that decision. LeoFinance is encouraging, fun and engaging, which happens to be the three major ingredients I have personally been missing for a long time.

Oh similar to me, I also was on the fence with LEO for a long time. Now I'm all in. I also love that LeoFinance is very engaging and the community is very active and supporting.

I have read your story a couple of times and it always catches my attention. "A dream come true" is a super phrase. Like you, I came by chance to the blockchain technology but with almost no experience in cyberspace. Everything has been new to me, but the love for what this community means also grows positively over time. That's why I want to continue learning from people like you and others who know how to interact with people and have technological skills.

Yes it is indeed a dream come true. For many years I looked for something like this and when I found it I was very happy and with time I realized that it was better than I expected.

The path it's not easy but it is worth all the effort.

I started out on Blogger writing about tech (mostly Apple) knowing that no one would see me there and I could make all of my blogging mistakes without worry. One day I reviewed the latest version of Photoshop and for a brief few days, it ranked #1 on Google above even own Adobe's listing. When I saw an SEO site linking back to mine discussing how some lowly Blogger page had outranked Adobe, That's when I thought I might be on to something.

In Spring/early Summer 2016, I Saw a Facebook post saying some dude had made $1000 from a blog post on a site called Steemit. I thought "yeah right!" and clicked away. Joined the next year and then saw the price run up in late 2017 and the split into Hive and all of the other tribes.

Comments Matter

Commenting plummeted on Hive, but I saw that comments were picking up over on LeoFinance. Took a chance and bought some miners even though the token was, i think 3 cents back then. I knew that personal finance, along with crypto would be an unbeatable combination, so I began popping in when I had a free moment between classes.

But it was the handful of actual comments on a LeoFinance post of mine that won me over. Last year I was livid at spending over a week researching a post about The Station nightclub fire from 2003 and fire safety in general and no one saw it:

Life is Precious #6 - The Station Nightclub Fire

source

I went to sleep thinking "This may actually reach people, might be my first trending post." I thought I'd wake up to 30 or more comments, but when I did, there were none. At all...

Yet some bozo posted a picture of a ham sandwich and it hit trending. Of course, no one owes you an upvote, but that sandwich vs fire safety really got to me. After 18 hours I didn't have a single response until I dropped a note onto a blog I supported and got a few sympathy comments. I began to think "Why am I even bothering?" But a writer can't just stop being a content creator. So I persisted, and here I am.

Thank you for sharing your story! Not so long ago I was talking with some Hive users, and we got to the conclusion that there isn't really justice here. I believe that in order to be successful in Hive or LEO, we have to persist, engage and push our limits.

Also, investors in Hive are more likely to upvote content of people that they already know, or they vote posts that they personally like.

I'm glad that you are still here :).

I hear you and you're right. But you understand it wasn't so much the upvoting, it was the lack of even one comment after 18 hours. Not even one.

I even refreshed the page thinking maybe Steemit was down. Then flipped over to trending where somebody had actually posted a few words and a picture of their lunch, with lots of engagement. Fire safety vs a ham sandwich. I'm glad I persisted as well! :)

I was writing another reply when you left this one. I understand, I think this is one of the reasons people quit...

Users that get a lot of votes for low effort posts could mean two things: One is that he was buying votes, depending on the time that this happened it is the most likely reason.

And the other reason could be that they are community leaders, investors, developers or witnesses that have the support of other big investors. These users my have done something big for the platform, or they just have friends with a lot of influence...

(I'm writing this for new users that may be wondering why these things happen. I know you already know these reasons.)

I totally understand you and I know the horrible feeling, all that effort for nothing. The truth is that when someone is starting they have no followers and even though now we have communities and content discovery through tags, there is a great possibility that a post from a new user could end up with very little views.

For some users it may not matter if their post has little votes or value, but when there are no comments it can be devastating. That's why I created an account called @aliento, which is designed to give hopes to new users and also there is an account that I support called @elcomentador that motivates people to make comments on posts.

Many things have improves, but we still have long way to go.

I've been in crypto since 2013. I got started on Steemit pretty much from the start. I always a bit skeptical of Steemit Inc. but loved the concept of blockchain blogging. The IDEA was brilliant.

I made the transition over to HIVE. I seen a lot of stuff mentioned in Twitter about Leo Finance. I started on the DEX and was incredibly impressed. After utilizing the DEX for a bit I decided to check out leofinance.io and I've been trying to make a couple post on financial topics each week.

I'm loving the community here. I love all the development that's happening. I'm also incredibly interested in the micro blogging they're getting ready to unveil next month.

So now I'm here trying to post a couple times a week and learning as I go. I'm going to try and grow my Leo account the same way I'm growing my HIVE account. I just added my first bit of LEO to my LeoPower and will continue to grow the account.

LeoFinance and LeoDex are two more apps that are making me incredibly bullish on HIVE and everything that's happening on our blockchain!

I'm also very excited about the upcoming features to LeoFinance and I also love and use their apps. Besides LeoFinance and LeoDex I use HiveStats daily.

I found out about steem when I read about it from an article on Coindesk. I joined and was delegated 15SP. I didn't use my account for months. Not sure why in hindsight. Things didn't really get interesting for me until the arrival of Steem Engine (now Hive Engine), tribes, and Splinterlands. I don't think people appreciate what a HUGE milestone that was as I'm not sure if I would still be here if it weren't for that. Splinterlands moved to Hive and so did I. Now I can't wait to find out what the future holds for this unpredictable blockchain. Hive on...

Nice! I've seen that dapps and games like Splinterlands have been a great way to onboard users. Also, tribes like LeoFinance are starting to become very popular and are onboarding a lot of users. I'm also excited about the future of Hive and LeoFinance.

I got to know about steem through word-of-mouth. I was at restaurant where j met a friend who introduced steem to me. I jumped on it instantly and I have never looked back.
I heard about Leo finance about a year but was never through interested. However, with the latest developments here I found it heard to resist. Currently at 500LP. Planning on reaching 1k LP before the year runs out

The latest developments and the community is also what brought me here. I want to reach at least 3,500 LP before the year runs out.

I've been using Steemit/HIVE for a while now but once I saw how great things are at Leo, I immediately came here to try out my luck. As you can see, the tryout was successful and now Leo is my second home!

I signed up on Steem in February 2018 and when the Tribes were born, including Steemleo which later became Leofinance.

Initially I followed the community a little and only recently I started to deepen and interact with the community

Better late than never :)

I started out on Steem in 2017. Ever since the SteemLeo tribe was created I would occasionally write about crypto/investing and use the appropriate tag. I've started exclusively using the leofinance.io website to post that stuff in August this year.

I was only focused on HIVETwitter and continuous contribution to HIVETwitter movement from LEOFinance community made me start my journey with LEO.

I do struggle with multi tasking so I might have to bring my focus back to HIVETwitter only..

Yes, it's difficult to multitask. I've been focused on LeoFinance for the past few weeks and I feel like I'm leaving some communities behind. I think you are doing a great job Nathan!

I starting to note very often this community at the days that Hive was born and it was rebranded to LeoFinance. At that time I have to say that I saw potential on LeoFinance but I had no idea what to post here and I was paying more attention to Hive only.

Now I think I have a good idea of what content I could share here, and at the same time I see this platform as an very good way to learn and read content about topics on crypto and finance. Recently I bought 5 Leo, not much but it is something to start.

The same happened to me but now I've come to realize that there are a lot of post that I can do here.

Recently I bought 5 Leo, not much but it is something to start.

You can always start with a little and with time you can add more to your wallet.
