Putting People First

Lately I've been reading about the politicians who voted against the economic stimulus. Not only are they against that, but are also fighting any attempt at canceling student loan debt. In the heart of a raging global pandemic which threatens not only lives, but the economic prospects of the entire nation, I'm left with one question: Who in the world is voting for such people?

Yes, we know they receive funding from lobbyists and high-dollar campaign contributors, but at the end of the day, it's the people that vote the politicians in. The overriding thought would be to serve the people, but that turns out not to be the case. Instead a coldness of heart seems to come over them, a concern about the deficit, that only seems to occur when their party isn't in power.

It is not my nature, when I see a people borne down by the weight of their shackles - the oppression of tyranny - to make their life more bitter by heaping upon them greater burdens; but rather would I do all in my power to raise the yoke than to add anything that would tend to crush them.
Abraham Lincoln

I can see it in the people around me. Those that are working, are terrified of being infected by the coronavirus. When I visit Walmart, over time I'm constantly seeing a change in the personnel stocking the shelves and working the registers. We now have long lines at the self-checkout section that many people rarely used before the pandemic. And everyone knows why...

Others are afraid to apply for the jobs mentioned in the numerous fliers plastered throughout the store. They've all heard the stories of the people who were quickly hired and shortly after, just as quickly vanishing, with whisperings of deadly illness in their wake. How any politician can vote against providing support for people like that is mind boggling. An even greater mystery are the millions of voters who vote for these heartless creeps in election cycle after election cycle.

The propaganda must really be that damn good...

All of our political parties are bought and paid for by corporate America, Wall Street, and the wealthy interests. The Republican Party more so, but the Democrats take their share of the loot, too. Michael Moore

What's that saying about people "voting against their own self-interest?" seems to be at play here amongst a certain segment of the population. The local worry about the arrival of stimulus checks and the concern about what to cut in their budget to service student loan debt, is on display day after day. People need to be freed from the chains that bind them and the hope is that strong minds will make the right choice and put people first.

Thank You So Much!

People who want to keep economy intact? Seriously, printing enormous amounts of paper they call money doesn't look like help. Rising country debt doesn't seem to be a great idea. This is like planting bomb under the house you built for your children.

fighting any attempt at canceling student loan debt

Cancelling someone's debt doesn't seem right. Isn't like stealing money from those who loaned them? I guess the only solution is to make education free for good students.

The very same people now complaining about the deficit, spent money like drunken sailors when they were in power. Now that they're not, they suddenly care about spending. This happens everytime they lose power, as a way of preventing the opposition from passing the bills that they champion.

I never thought I'd see someone support the sharks that chain our young people with a load of student debt and steal their future, but here we are. The same political philosophy that suddenly cares about the deficit now that they're out of power, is also against student debt relief. I see you're from Russia, I don't know how things are over there, but that's how they are here. We have our own oligarchs and a system that supports them. You have your opinion and are entitled to it.
