Too Big For One Single Person

Yesterday I performed what is for me a relatively simple task. Compile a list of quotes referring to a certain topic (apps being developed by Leo team approaching release time) from a few and known set of sources (latest three announcements).

It doesn't require truly special skills. What you need is:

  • curiosity
  • understanding the topic and the general language used in the sources
  • patience and attentiveness to details
  • ability to "connect the dots"

Why am I telling you this?

Because this compilation of quotes seems to have helped quite a few readers connect the dots together with me. And Khal jumped in and added more clarifications, as much as they are (made) available now.

So, why didn't they do it before? Why didn't I do it before? After all these were public statements on the leofinance posts.

I'll tell you why. Besides the case when all this talk is complete gibberish to a reader with an opposite set of skills, it's often the case of focus.

While many of us are focused on Leo, maybe few were focused on this particular curiosity-task, to know what else is in store from Leo in the near future.

And think of this. Until this point I have only talked about Leo.

There are only a few things we can truly dedicate time to, everything else is secondary.

I'm probably up to date with a very small portion from what's going on in the Hive ecosystem. And I'm relatively well-informed.

I eventually get the news on some aspects I'm interested in, but not in the first wave. So I am informed (but not necessarily up-to-date) with a bigger portion of what's going on on Hive.

And the percents are going down as Hive grows.

And I'm not the only one with this "problem", although it's not a problem, it's simply a limitation of the human capacity to pay attention in all direction he's being pulled in.

I saw taskmaster remarking the same thing in the recording of his meeting with Jon Olson.

Funnily, I knew some of the things they didn't, but that was a recording and couldn't jump in to help. At the same time, they had information about 3Speak, for example, that never crossed my eyes or ears until then, although I assume they aren't latest news.

So yeah, Hive has become too big for a single person to track down every development and stay up-to-date (as well as do other tasks). I have now the same feeling I had when Hive-Engine tokens were first introduced, then other options were enabled until finally tribes joined the ecosystem. And what a rush it was! Too bad many of those tribe owners never had a plan beyond creating one.

Let's make a simple test. See how many "yes-es" you get below:

  • Do you know what will likely be included in hard fork 25? It's only a couple a months away. Probably June.

  • Do you know that PeakD interface (not the Hive blockchain!) made an important step toward decentralization, being able to run from IPFS? As far as I know, it's the only interface on Hive capable of this so far.

  • Have you heard about @utopis? How about @liotes?

If you answered yes to all of the above, you are certainly well informed. But you probably don't know everything either.

Hehehe... I know the third dot and both projects that you have listed... :) So, I'm 33% percent informed in this case...

You are right, a single person can't know everything that it's happening on Hive and Hive-Engine (and probably soon on LeoFi)... Maybe you can be informed about Hive, but these sidechains have a lot of things going on... And speaking of H-E tribes and tokens, for me, it looks that these days we finally got some projects and tribes where people are creating a PLAN before running them!

There were exceptions in the past, but most of the tokens didn't have any valid plan or development... I'm happy that we have some with a strong business plan and sustainable tokenomics... They will bring a huge value to the whole HIVE ecosystem!

Thanks for mentioning @liotes project! I hope that we will be one of these tokens that will bring value to everyone...

All beginnings are more based on momentum and exuberance than carefully planned. As things mature and people realize it's more than throwing a token or a tribe out there, carefully crafted plans are designed and development is continued past the launch phase. Either that or we have projects with little future value.

I'm glad you guys designed an easy to understand whitepaper. Still haven't listened to Achim's video explaining things further yet, but I promise I will today.
