How Crypto and Blockchain Technology Has Impacted My Personal Finance

Hello Hive Friends!

This is my answer to @theycallmedan's question: How has Crypto and Blockchain Technology Impacted your Personal Finance?

I would like to introduce myself first. I am a software developer by profession so have been dealing with technology in my day to day life. I have been involved in development of software for the last 20 years but if i look back now i still wonder how come i never looked into this side of the tech industry - The Crypto.

Whenever someone used to talk to me about Crypto it was a MYSTERY to me - a total black box. All I knew was some random details about Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the first thing that comes to your mind when someone says the word crypto.

My understanding of crypto was limited to Bitcoin only, that too mostly was based on some news articles about Bitcoin's price.

Bitcoin really catched my eye when it crossed the $19000 price mark.

I started reading more about it and gained knowledge. While I was doing this @guurry123 introduced me to the Steam community. He would always encourage me to read, post and share content on Steem platform. I was not too sure about it so he asked me to start with small things like writing some small posts and participating in competitions.

It was looking very complicated in the beginning as there was a lot of content on Steemit. It was all very confusing so I could not engage much but i would still post some content (whenever @guurry123 would nudge me :-) ).

After the launch of Hive, everything changed :-) (ofcourse @guurry123 introduced me to this platform as well :-)

His continuous support has always been a good help and his guidance is helping me a lot in understanding the Crypto world.
He introduced me to all different initiatives which are being held on this platform. I have been very consistent in posting on Hive and have made a lot of new friends.

Trust is one important factor in deciding when you want to invest your hard earned money. So I was a little hesitant to invest from random websites but then I saw a window of opportunity when Revolut announced that they are going to allow Crypto currency buy/sell as well. I have been using Revolut for around 3 years now. I was using it for my day to day needs to pay shopping and grocery bills. I decided to invest in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash through Revolut when Bitcoin crashed last year/start of this year.

My first experience was not very good as the price decreased further after i bought.

I was in panic mode and as Bitcoin was very volatile and I did not have a lot of experience so to recover my investment, I decided to sell my holdings as soon as the price of Bitcoin crossed my buying prices.

I did make some profit so I decided to keep the profit as investment and recovered my investment amount only. I am holding that investment till today. Once I recovered my initial investment it was peace of mind as I did not have to worry about my investments.

I think that this is the best strategy but it requires you to constantly monitor the price and make clever decisions whenever any currency is down.

I have not invested any hard money in Hive platform yet but have earned some token by posting and participating in different competitions. I will take some more time before investing any hard money.

I have started undertaking Crypto in a bit more detail now and looking forward to Platform's success and my success in the future.

I am still a newbie but I am sure this community will help me in my journey.

Hi,

in what language do you develop? Do you have some kind of portfolio, as 20 years in this business must have brought you some good projects. I'm just curious, as there might opportunities to be shared, as developers come handy most of the time.

Thanks

I am mainly involved in server side technologies and worked in software development for telecom and insurance industry in the past.

Are you also a software engineer? What’s your expertise?

I'm working in business development and sales at the moment, with technical background in automotive design to manufacturing and robotics. I don't know software, but good software devs are sought after.
