As the 3rd edition for dcity is now live for a week, it is time to look at the best ways to increase your income. Or to reduce the impact from the globaal crisis events and taxes.

Dcity has become a lot more complex with the new update, so there are also a lot of ways to increase your income and reduce the negative effect of the global crisis events. Some of those are quite cheap and easy to manage, some are really expensive or hard to get.

Law Firm

First of all, since taxes are still around 80% a Law Firm is still a very nice card to have. It gives 10% reduction in taxes for your dcity, so with 80% tax that is 8% less taxes paid. If your base in come is 1000 SIM, then 80% tax would reduce that to 200 SIM without a law firm. 8% from 1000 is 80 SIM, so with a Law firm the income would increase to 280 SIM.

Unfortunately Law Firms are quite rare and only this month can 3 of them be combined into Central Banks. This has caused the price of Law Firms to go up very high. So you will need to calculate how many days you need to get to the break-even point for your dcity by comparing 8% from your base income with the current price of Law Firms on the market.

I did combine my Law Firms into a Central Bank, so I had to buy one and found that it would take me about 40 days to get to the break-even point. So I decided to buy one for 12,99 Swap.Hive. With my max income before taxes of 3835 SIM I did not want to wait longer.

Church with Tier 1 technology Advanced Prayers

When you get the tier 1 technology Advanced Prayers, then a Church will get +1 income, but also it will reduce the percentage of citizens that gets sick from a Pandemic crisis. Each Church will reduce it with 1%, with a max of 10%. So you will eventually want to get 10 Churches with this technology.

As the Church card is not rare and the technology is a tier1 technology I expect prices for these cards to go down after the first few weeks. So don’t pay too much for them now. I bought 78 random cards and got 12 Churches, so they are not that hard to get.

Fire Department

The Fire Department is an interesting one. Each Fire Department reduces the impact from the Fires Crisis with 20 SIM. As Fires reduce the income of a dcity by 5% big dcities will need an awful lot of Fire Departments to reduce the impact of the Fires Crisis event.

Luckily Fire Departments are also not very rare, so you should be able to get them on the market or just from buying random cards.

Again, if you have 1000 SIM income before taxes, then 5% reduction means 50 SIM income lost due to the fires, so then you would need 3 Fire Departments to make sure you don’t loose income from Fires.

Consumable cards

Then there are a few consumable cards that reduce the impact from Crisis events. When you use these cards you will get a 7 day prevention on the specific crisis it prevents. Especially now that the new update has just launched, I expect these cards to be very expensive. So do make sure you calculate if getting one of these cards and using it is worth it for your dcity income.

You can find more info on these consumable prevention cards in the manual written by the @dcitygame account.

If you can get any of the combined buildings that create the consumable cards for prevention of crisis, then that is generally worth it. Eventually you will see more an more of these cards on the market I think, but for now I expect the big dcities to use the cards themselves, rather than putting them on the market. I could be wrong though, so it doesn’t hurt to check the market.

New technologies

The tier 4 technology from the Economy branch, Bitcoin fund, decreases the effect of an Economy crisis event with 20%, meaning that your income is reduced with 8% rather than 10%.

The tier 4 technology from the Health branch, Healthcare AI, makes that every hospital in your dcity reduces social costs by 40 SIM. This means that if you have a lot of hospitals, then you can reduce the impact of a Pandemic crisis event significantly. Hospitals are very expensive and rare buildings, but it is a valid strategy. But you do need the technology for it to work.

The tier 5 technology from the Health branch is also very useful as it reduces the amount of people that get sick by 15%. That means less social cost and more workers that keep working and therefore creating income for you dcity. It will be a very expensive technology, but also a very useful one.

Additional strategies to reduce the impact of crisis events

Social Aid Office

As the Pandemic, Riots and Nature disaster crisis events all reduce your Population, it is best from now on to have some unemployment in your dcity. This helps to keep your production cards working when your citizens are ill, or when your Popularity goes down and your Population is reduced as a result. This means that the Social Aid Office is now even more useful than before as it allows you to have unemployment, by reducing social aid costs by 100 SIM.

Reduce that population

I think that the Pandemic is the toughest crisis, as it does both increase costs and reduce the workers for your dcity. If you have 1000 Population, then this means that 200 of your workers are sick. This likely means that around 20% of your production cards are not producing income, but also the social support cost will be 80 SIM on top of that. Combined with 80% taxes this means that you will likely have 0 SIM income left, as I did as well.. This is what most players have experienced a day ago when the first Pandemic crisis event hit.

The Pandemic hits harder if you have a lot of Population for a relatively small income. A big Population means more sick workers and those cost 0,4 SIM each. If you have a high income with a relatively small Population, then the impact of this social support cost will be lower as the nummer of workers that gets sick is lower.

Additional sources of income

Dcity has a lot of other income sources. The easy ones are Weed Farms, Breweries, Stadiums, Casino’s that produce hive-engine tokens that you can sell.

You can also sell Homeless/Immigrants cards or train them to then sell Workers, Scientists and Artists.

If you build up your Education and Creativity you will get Technologies and Backgrounds that you can sell.

You can save up 8000 SIM and keep that for more than 30 days to get some Hive for that. You also get Hive for your position in the rankings for Population, Income, Education, Creativity and Popularity.

Hive signs, Law Firms, Military Industrial Complexes and Military Bases also get a bit of extra income.

Conclusion

Make sure you get enough Fire Departments and Churches with the Advanced Prayers technology. Then try to get a Law firm. Try to get your Income versus Population ratio as good as possible. This means that Luxury Homes are much better than Workers and a bunch of Barber shops are much better than a Factory, Circus or Zoo.

Get your Education up, so that you will get those useful technologies for your dcity and to sell on the market for some juicy gains. Also train those Immigrants and Homeless into Scientists and Artists that you can sell for a bit of extra income.

Personally I would focus first on the improvements that are one-time costs and ignore the consumable prevention cards for now. I think that this will help you improve your income a lot in the long term.

Good luck folks!
