Real Jobs: Let's Look At What It Means

avatar

Jobs are taking different forms in our days especially with digital advancement either remotely, on-site or hybrid jobs the end goal is to earn an income.

And we have what is termed real jobs by society, which sparks my interest.
I'd like us to look at:

  • Remote Job
  • On-site Job
  • Hybrid Job

And perhaps we might have the answer to what real jobs mean by the end of this article.

Remote Job

The advancement of telecommunication, from Second Generation (2G) which is voice only to Third Generation (3G) allowed for data followed by Long Term Evolution (LTE) otherwise known as 4G and now 5G has given rise to getting things done without having to be physically present at a location and one of the areas this transformation has impacted most is to work remotely.

We saw the remote work slowly creeping in on us and thanks to Covid 19, companies had to embrace working from home due to lockdowns.
So thanks to telecommunication remote work is now a form of work some are opting for if not most.

On-site Job

This can be described as the oldest form of work, get up daily and get going. You don't want to be seen hanging around the neighborhood during working hours, otherwise, you are seen as a loser that needs to get a life.
The setup for this is normally at offices or fields where work is being performed.

We also have telecoms impacting this area of work a great deal.

Hybrid Job

Some companies adopted the hybrid way of work post-Covid as it partially enables employees to work remotely and on-site, depending on an organization's structure working remotely and on-site is incorporated for workflow.

Real Job

Can we define any or all of the above three forms of work as real jobs? I would but interesting some don't think so, especially when you work remotely.

There are folks out there still struggling to grasp how is it even possible to be at home the entire day and tell people you are working.

@josediccus shared his experience in the past as he was looking for accommodation and landlords only want tenants that are doing an on-site job or married. I was disappointed to know some people are stuck in the old ways of working for an income to an extent of discriminating against remote workers.

Internet money has peaked.
2023 people will need to go get real jobs.
Source

And recently I found the above on Twitter which had me wondering what kind of jobs are real jobs.

Comments or thoughts like the above don't reflect some are giving tokenization through blockchain technology a chance. Some people earn from blockchain gaming, blogging as we do on Hive, the #walktoearn model, and even freelancing keeps growing as more people embrace remote work.

The number of those that seek to work remotely is most likely going to keep rising as it offers a more convenient way of working and saves on commuting.

While the focus has been on real jobs, I can't ignore the other content of the tweet which states that internet money has peaked.
I will define internet money as cryptocurrency, the possibility to transact from person to person without any intermediary and we think internet money has peaked.

Earnings tokens through tokenization are not enough to replace salaries at present but there's a possibility it could in the future or as a supplement to salaries and it is high time those stuck in the mud start considering it as real jobs.

In reality, remote jobs guarantee quality of life and in the 21st century it's still dissapointing to know that some people are entirely ignorant of the remote jobs, internet/crypto opportunities that has the prospects of complexly changing the lives of others. Although I'll like to finally establish something on the side during the next bull run, but then, everything will be recycled back into Crypto. The experience I had is one of the reasons why I'll be looking to own my own place.

I spent the past year at home creating content and doing some freelance telecom jobs as they come now and then but the point is I enjoyed every day of last year because I don't have to rush to work every day, shivering at the sight of the boss.
This has led me to be keen on finding remote jobs and doing work from the comfort of my home in addition to Hive.

Although I'll like to finally establish something on the side during the next bull run, but then, everything will be recycled back into Crypto.

This is part of the plan and a necessary one to survive the bull market without feeling the pain of crypto dependency.

It's scary to not think of owning your thing. One which you can manage by yourself. I mean, to truly be financially independent working for someone isn't a way of achieving this. When the fortunes of the bull smiles on us, we'll realize how freeing owning one's stuff can be..

You have a glimpse of how I can't stand being bossed around on jobs any longer. The crypto life has set me half independent I have established something that will make me fully independent by supplementing crypto with an offline source of income.

From here on I have a feeling the future looks great for us, we just need to set up things right and we will be in control of our lives.

I've been working remotely for the past 3 years and as long as I get to choose, I'm not planning on going back.

Obviously there are some jobs you can't do remotely but for the ones you can, it should be the standard way of doing things. I can't believe so many people still have a hard time accepting it

I am a Telecom Technician and to be honest, am willing to dump it for remote work, as for the on-site job I've had enough.

Some will never adapt and grow, the old way of doing things is the most pleasing to some.

The nature of work is changing and it will continue to evolve it the future. The problem is that the average person hasn't catch up to it yet or understand the possibilities it offer. Maybe it's because we're in a bear market that's why the Tweet said that the internet money has peaked. There are still some who believe that internet money will end one day and we will all go back to the real world lol.

I wonder when some will begin to wake up in a world where it is tough and difficult to stick to one way of doing things. Humans are survival and adaptive beings we should use it to our advantage and push ourselves beyond the norm.

True, to what you said, some believe internet money is just another hype that will fade away someday. We shall see who fades away it can only be either the internet money or those stuck in the old ways of money.

I think it will be the latter that will fade away because of their inability to adapt to new paradigm shift that's taking place. This thing is hear to stay and they have some catching up to do.

The good old 9 to 5 being told when to sneeze I think has altered somewhat of late, trades still require hands on approach in many countries.

Moving toward the future narrowing technology skills into a specific requirement may require on site or a work from home situation.

Working for oneself, when electricity, internet etc. are available online allows one to take on more tasks to develop and grow. Longer hours normally worked when doing it for yourself. No boss breathing down your neck, yes full control, what you put in you hope comes to fruition paying dividends in the long run, depends on strategy always down to economy in supply and demand.

No boss breathing down your neck

I had to tell my boss one day on-site;

Garry only one head can fit in this confined space, don't you wanna take a break?

He walked away from me, lol, he got the message that I want to be left alone rather than be policed 😃

This is the old way some are still stuck to, the truth is not all jobs will end up remote, especially in my field I have to be on-site dealing with cables, antennas, etc but for those that will mostly end up remote, I say let everyone chose as they please.

To date I think it's just a perception of society.

In my view, work is anything that has a return and brings a profit; you can do it from home, it can be mental or physical work, but if you make money regardless of what people say it's still work.

Many people play poker for a living today and society still sees it as a game, it's true from a certain point of view and it depends on the eye of the beholder... the fact remains that whoever pays our groceries and bills sees it and lives it as a full-fledged job.
Obviously this poker is just an example.

Let society know I play blockchain games and it earns me money, they will tell me to get a life. But the reality is our world is transforming from what we are once used to, to something different and we have to look at things deeply and embrace the ones worth embracing for our benefit.

Yes I fully agree, if something is beneficial I don't think it matters what society says.

The important thing is that it is legal and dignified as I see it

I think remote jobs are the best if it's possible but I understand that it's not for everyone. I do think it's moving in that direction though but any job that pays the bill is good. Invest the leftover and try to get to that financial independence.

Absolutely as long as a job pays the bill, I consider it a job as well, or even a real job for that matter. I would take a remote job too, the traveling to site has been a norm for me for years a change will do now.
