One Account To Rule Them All.....Or Not?

avatar

1acc.png

Here's the dream...

One account on Hive, does everything!

It becomes your brand here on the blockchain and for some, it's all the ever need to enjoy the true Web3 experience.

And for most people here, one account is all they need. They may upload a video to 3speak and then the next day write a blog post on LeoFinance. It keeps things very simple!

And then along comes the second layer tokens and tribes!

The different front ends!

The numerous applications that are making their home right here on chain.

I'm going to ask a question and then give you guys my approach to this unique position some creators here are facing...

Do we need multiple accounts here on the blockchain?

Here's what I do....

I have a passion for writing and doing my podcasts here on the blockchain. For the majority of the week, I use this account with no issues at all. From Sunday to Saturday night, everything I do on chain can be served by this one account.

But then there's....My ActiFit posts that I've started doing again. These are usually a quick photo of the hike I took and a few sentences describing my day out and about. Hardly what would be considered high quality content. And I'm doing most of these posts to keep building my habits every day.

For this, I post to my @jonolsonproject account! It keeps this account's feed clean and doesn't bombard my followers with how many steps I managed today....

Next, comes the curios case of #Splinterlands

It's a game I'm invested in and have a deep passion for. However, while some of the content does fit with this account, a few months ago I decided to create a new account exclusively for my Splinterlands content & to develop my following in the Splintertalk / SPT tribe.

That account is @jonnycoin

So now we're up to 3 accounts! And that's just for my personal journey. I'm not even counting the half a dozen or so accounts that we have for the CTP Tribe.

And don't forget...You may have a boat load of LEO tokens and are one of the whales there, but only a handful of Hive tokens. So it makes sense you would curate specifically for the LEO tribe and token as well...

Now comes the next argument for the multiple accounts...The front ends!

With projects like Liketu starting to gain traction and our upcoming project, more and more content on the chain will become...Bite sized! Which means, the 'top quality content brigade' may not see the value in someone taking a picture of their Fettuccine that they made for dinner.

However, take a look at most popular social media platforms out there. It's not long content, but short form, micro content. These apps like Liketu (and similar projects) will be vital for the adoption of Hive going forward.

So I can see a future where I create accounts specifically for the different apps.....Unless....

There is a way to cater to both the micro content audience and the long form content audience. All from one account.

That would be my dream for sure, but until then...I'll be using different accounts, for different projects here on chain.

What about you?

Do you have multiple accounts?

And if so, how do you manage it all?

But also...What would be the solution to allow members to create with one account, and not upset the members that only believe Hive should be long form content?

I've recently started using a second account for curating LEO content. If I had more time, I'd probably create anofher account for non crypto stuff since this one is primarily dedicated to that.

Would be really nice if there were ways to do all of it from one account in a non spammy or annoying way though.

That's like...The perfect solution. I hope one day there will be that here.

Inji used the inji comment thread, you could still post on the blockchain and earn rewards but it would only show up as a comment in a thread that got created in the inji community. Would be a cool option to post repiort crads as comments in a thread that can be read by a bot and rankings would update from that one comment thread...

Maybe I should have a second account as well. How do you handle these, separate browsers?

I'm a fan of alt accounts for research and discovery. I like my main "brand" account which translates between Web2 and Web3. But like you, I'm on a 30 day Actifit challenge. I'm not going to bombard my regular audience with that daily fitness post. So that goes on the alt account. I think it's nice to have options.

That's the toughest thing for me too...I wanna keep the 'brand' but respect people's votes.

Yeah, I have multiple accounts. Like you, I have a "main" account (this one), which is used for most of my content. However, I also have a separate "alt" account for my artwork, because a lot of people who follow me would have little interest in my "art journal" about ideas and work I am in the middle of. Our cats also have their own blog because I don't want to bombard people with cat photos and cat tales. So that's three accounts. But as a subset of the cat blog, we also have the "Hive Cats" community, which has an account attached. My wife has two accounts, one personal and one for her non-profit. As a joint venture, we just started a community about/for labyrinths, so that's one more.

Sometimes it is hard to keep up with, but it helps that the "alts" have very specific purposes. It's not a big deal, really, as I have kept "niche blogs" elsewhere for better than 20 years... at one time managing as many as 14, concurrently.

I also want to make quite clear that I have multiple accounts not as a way to "milk the system," but out of a semblance of consideration for readers; and as a way to serve "grouped" content.

Yeah for sure, I completely hear ya. I literally didn't want to have my content for ActiFit show up on my feed to respect people's vote. I want to make sure I earn those votes lol

I was bothered people would think my aim is to milk the system with alt accounts but like you mentioned, I'm really just being considerate not to bombard my followers with things they might not care about on this account.

I don’t have different accounts, but in case like yours it’s suitable to manage more than one account. I’m still not so active here that I need more than this and I feel my content fits pretty well under one “hat”. If I play different blockchain games, maybe it’s better to have a separate account.

I only have one account, but I do feel that I don't want to do more than about 1 to 2 posts a day, as I don't want to bombard people with a lot of stuff. A second account could be a great idea, as often I am not posting my Actifit or Splinterland related content to limit the number of posts.

I've just opened an alt account to handle exactly what you are talking about - the range of topics and front ends. There's so many nowadays that it could get confusing for my core followers on my (primarily) gardening and self-suffiency account.

One account can do everything. But I like to have an alt account, to keep finance there separately. As most of the interaction is on this account, have alt account just for tokens, Hive and HBD !

I got to confess @jongolson @jonolsonproject AND @jonnycoin XD I also have multiple accounts.

In my case I own this as my main account for everything I do. I have a "vault" one, this account is only used to keep my HBD Savings long term, so I don't use it for anything else on chain (or off chain for that matter.)

Finally, I have one account specific for my music work, this one I intend to use it in a very professional portfolio-like account, so I intend to upload music lessons, more than music videos, etc. So I'm on the 3 accounts too!

I honestly don't know how happened, but as I mainly use this one for my main activities here, I feel very good about this number.

!PIZZA for you bro. Take it on my behalf, hope not to ruin your ActiFit progress (:

Best regards, and bro... thanks again for everything you've done for our communities. I'm sincerely LOVING ListNerds, and learning step by step with CTP (this one goes slower tho')

Best regards,

I would say that if we could have our short form content not go in the same feed as our blog and all posts tabs, it would help a lot. Similar to comments, they are neither presented to our followers or put on our main pages. They have their own tab.

Yeah, problem is people still use curation trails and no matter where the content shows up, it triggers it. I would love for a way to only post what I would like on a feed, and have other content be 'ignored' if that's even possible lol

Comments are ignored by a curation trail, so why not short form too? Just make it an option in the trail settings? I have always thought that short form should be handled basically as a different type of comment. One initiated by the account holder.

I just recently read that some Splinterlands players create another account and split their cards between accounts to get more loot chests. I guess in order to do that one needs to create a new Hive account as well. Pretty interesting strategy and could be profitable. However, this might just get more expensive to do since the new update. We would probably have to acquire more cards to replace the starters to avoid penalties.

Oh that's way too much effort for me LOL I'll just keep my one Splinterlands account lol

I just have the one account but can see it may make sense at some point to add a second one. I wonder how the micro-content will be rated on Hive going forward. At the same value as long-content?

Oh wow, that's the million dollar question...

Value is, what people feel is valuable. And traditionally on Hive, short form content has been frowned upon sadly.

I wonder how we will find a good balance then! There should be room for both.

One account is definitely not going to be enough for me as well. Maybe I would have thought about growing just one account if there were no Hive engine and tribes. But now for each Dapp and tribe, I feel it is ideal to have one account. I have so many accounts now each targeting one tribe. I keep my tokens on those tribe accounts and curate them accordingly. I also have one account for Splinterlands as well. So multiple accounts it is for me.

Yeah the tribes and their tokens add another complexity to it all. Wanting to maximize your curation on different tribes.

0

I think having so many accounts drives you a little crazy but it's necessary if you're dealing with such different topics. Then there are the specific healing accounts by tribes, although I personally prefer to delegate and earn tokens passively.

I had earlier account, which I struggled to access now. I only had four posts there. It's @rzc24-bbsmdapp.

And then I made another one using Leo's mobile app, but it didn't work as I expected. It's @rzc24arcel.

Struggling to maintain my voting power due to active upvoting of contents in different tribes, I actually want to use two to three separate accounts, but I worry about logging in and out using different accounts. I still struggle with keys.

But also...What would be the solution to allow members to create with one account, and not upset the members that only believe Hive should be long form content?

So for now, I am just using one account and whenever I will post short content, I will publish them instead on either SoMee or D.Buzz and be discreet with the use of tags.

A lot will depend on whether you want to be easily recognisable.
In case I ever feel the need to add accounts, I am tempted to work off of a "base number" approach. The base caters for all of Hive. A suffix would cater for a specific community. In my case, my base is rpren. For the CTP community I would probably do something like rpren_ctp. And for the LeoFinance community something like rpren_leo.

I am facing the very same challenges. I have @hivebusiness for listings of services around the globe that accept HBD

I think I could use a couple more lol

When I first found HIVE I though I would only write about music so I created @recording-box which is strictly music-related content.

I have since blossomed into a multidimensional adult individual and realized I can also talk about HIVE, investing, beer, traveling and fettuccine! But like you, I don't want to mix the two. I'll keep my two accounts separate.

It makes perfect sense to have different accounts for the various reasons you stated in your post. However I find it very time consuming just to manage the account I am currently posting from. If I add more accounts that I would create posts, I do not think I would ever get anything else done. The challenge for me would be how to balance multiple accounts when one is a major effort. Take care.

This is a great post for me, because I have been mulling this over recently.
I am not long on Hive and it has only been since January of this year that I have been using it.
However I would like to post the daily actifit posts for example, but that does not fit nor do game updates. I like photography and would like to use liketu.
Even leofinance I have thought of having a separate account for, many of my engagers don't really do crypto.
So at the moment I only have one account, but I also do not post a lot of content which I would like to.
In summary me thinks it would be time to have a secondary, I think multi accounts would be too ambitious and too time consuming for me!
Awesome food for thought though!

The biggest issue with split accounts is that it's impossible to ensure your core followers see everything across them all.

But in saying that, it's also likely your LEO followers don't give a shit what you have to say about STEM topics (for example).

I honestly don't know what the best practice in terms of branding them is.

You'll never be able to please everyone no matter what you do ;)

I think I'm this way because I am not playing any of the hive Blockchain games and I'm not doing any of the actifit stuff too. Having 3 accounts focusing on different topics seems logical. It is a good way to stay organised. I can imagine that it take some effort to manage but I am sure it is a good approach.
I have 1 account and that is enough for me. It is hard enough to managed with my offline life. I think the number of accounts will depends on people's interests and involvement in different projects and their offline activities.
