Why Do Scam Still Sells Despite It's Notoriety?

Phishing Scam?

So a particular scam has been going on about leofinance and how users can get 300 hive or so for signing in through a particular interface. This makes me realize that it's often difficult to resist scams nowadays especially with how it often appeals to the sentiments, the needs, wants and fantasies and finally, the inexperience of people rather than their logical side.

So does this means stupidity kicks in first at the prospect of reward for a lot of people? I don't know. One of the reasons why scam sells is because people firstly think of reward before repercussion and if the latter came before the former then it would create a sort of hesitation, a sort of doubt or a sort of caution and this is where red flags eventually kicks in.

People of course often blame inexperience or ignorance immediately they're scammed, but then it even runs deeper than that. The susceptibility to get scammed is often more psychological and one of the most underlying factor is greed. Now, I used to say greed is good. It's the motivation behind making more money and seeking for more need for achievement.

But when there's no caution or thin line to greed, this is when it becomes dangerous. Now, it can be driven by being excessively poor or excessively wealthy. The people who are wealthy don't see their wealth as a state, they see it as a progression: a means to amass more resources to acquire more wealth.

Greed: A Culpable Factor?

As for some excessively poor people, greed comes from the need to survive. Sometimes the cost of survival can be detriment. It can be at the expense of someone else. In a simpler term, the Instincts of people when it comes to survival is often animalistic. Let's take for example, a group of people who are facing the possibilities of extinction with resources which are not enough but must be shared equally amongst them.

A few people who probably have larger families unable to bear the possibilities of their children dying will want to steal the resources or ration meant for others. This is greed, even if the intent seems genuine. People like this are susceptible to taking irrational risks in the sense that they're doing it for the greater good

This is a situational theory to prove how people are often prone to greed. It drives them to be scammed. Gambling is not investing but because a lot of people mistake one for each other, it often blinds them from seeing a scam when they should have spotted it.

One of the ways through which scams are spotted is that they're always too good to be true, it doesn't follow a conventional method and it screams outrageous returns without following a due process that shows authenticity. So how then do people still fall for it? It is quite complex because it's different with diverse people.

A Situational Experience

Phishing scams will always be "a thing". This means that a lot of them will come up on hive and a lot of people will continuously fall for it for a really long time. This would not be because of Inexperience or ignorance, but this would come from people not questioning each and every prospect of reward to come their way.

I have seen posts talking about how they have been scammed and why no one is immune to mistakes, most times mistakes happens because people do not see the possibilities of mistake. At the end of the day, it takes caution to survive on the internet that is constantly evolving and people are forced to buy into mad ROI rather than solid projects.

In almost every case, the reason people fall for scams is greed. In a few cases it stems from need but everyone knows there's hardly anything like free money.

Yeah, just like I said, however these reasons aren't excusable, I do believe that scams teaches people in the hard way, its crazy to think you can get 300 hive for approving a witness vote, I mean Why don't people think?

I saw the the vote for Leofinance witness and stand a chance of being rewarded with 300 Hive, to be honest I thought to myself this must be a scam, first the 300 Hive outrageous reward and I don't see Leofinance luring you for witness vote.
A bit of common sense application can save the day.

Yeah you're correct, but then greed often blinds common sense, I mean I saw a guy complaining of how how he was scammed but then I asked within me? Where do you get 300 hive for doing almost nothing. It was so pissing that a person could fall for a scam that was so obvious. Like Why?

I am really sad about how many people were compromised by the scam. From what I saw, I think one member of the Rising Star community got compromised and they even had a in-game announcement about it.

Generally if its too good to be true, it probably is. I don't know why people think about that first.

and they even had a in-game announcement about it.

Imagine this? When something is too good to be true, it probably is and this is the first thing to know about scam. 300 hive for a witness vote sure sounds like scam.

Most of these scammers take advantage of the greed of the users and well, also a part of these users are naive enough to fall into these systems, I think they still do not have the autonomy and responsibility to manage their passwords properly.

Apart from nativity everyone on the internet has seen one form of scam before. In other words, it ain't their first rodeo so failing for scam and blaming nativity is not really excusable. Greed is what accommodates nativity

I don't think not just greedy cause this scam succeeded, there are many phishing tried to scam people by telling them their accounts have some problems need to solve immediately by impersonation of the admins or supports!
