I just enrolled a trading course! ASK LEO: Do you trade? Any tips to share?

avatar

I have a confession to make and some news to share.
I am very insecure when it comes to sharing information about anything that I do not know much of.
One of the things that I really am ignorant about is .. trading :(
Yes, I know .. unfortunately
I have only learned some information from reading, but nothing solid enough to give me the boost or to get me started.

But trading is something that seems inspiring and may also be rewarding if you know what you are doing!

So I decided to enroll to a course organized by a Greek University!

I just paid and confirmed my enrollment so in the summer time .. expect some news from me:)

In the meantime ... let's see what .. trading is

Trade is a basic economic concept involving the buying and selling of goods and services, with compensation paid by a buyer to a seller, or the exchange of goods or services between parties. Trade can take place within an economy between producers and consumers. International trade allows countries to expand markets for both goods and services that otherwise may not have been available to it. It is the reason why an American consumer can pick between a Japanese, German, or American car. As a result of international trade, the market contains greater competition and therefore, more competitive prices, which brings a cheaper product home to the consumer.

In financial markets, trading refers to the buying and selling of securities, such as the purchase of stock on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). For more on this kind of trade, please see the entry on 'what is an order?'

Of course cryptotrading is about trading cryptocurrencies!

And I would love to know from you ..
Do you trade?
Daily?
Do you do it automatically?
How many hours a day does it take?
Is it better to think short or long term?

Any starting links/tips?

Thank you so much in advance!

p.s. go over to the last post by @trumpman .. he got some news to share :)

Thank you for visiting!

Interesting to see what it will bring you, read some books lately as I was also interested and had little info myself. After my personal preference is rather with investing long-term than daily trading. The compounding effect does its work and this way I don't lose money on costs and bad market timing.

So for the long term I've setup monthly buy of well spread index funds(world, emerging markets and small cap) so it's automatic and I try to look at it only once a month if that so. After setting it up it takes almost no time so I can spend more time here :-)

Thank you! I was also thinking long term, so that I will not be .. having every day anxiety! Do you use certain tools/apps?

Exactly, I'll save that for crypto :-P

But in honesty, crypto distracts me so I don't look at the index funds, thought about using deGiro first (I'm based in Holland) but it seems the regular banks offer a similar setup where you chose what to invest in yourself and have low costs. They'd rather see you enroll in wealth management, preferred banking or guided investing (not sure if these are the right translations) as they earn more with those but I prefer doing the research and decide what fits for you.

So no apps or anything just the bank I already happened to have my main account turned out to be the most cost effective option and had the etf's I wanted too

(Edited)

we all trade.
by reading this youre exchanging my thoughts for your time, when i read your post i traded my time for your experience.
trading is a solo sport where you learn the fundamentals of supply & demand translated into different forms & as you advance you realize that its more than charts.
it becomes about what you believe about money, society, reality, & yourself, your quality of mental & physical health, & even your environment, all the while youre to try to follow the 1 rule of trading:
buy low, sell high.

good luck on your journey 🙌🏾

Good for you!

It'll be interesting to see what they teach about trading, "out in the mainstream."

Yes, I trade all the time, but not financial instruments. Investments are something I pretty much buy and leave along to do their thing.

But (for example) I trade rare old postage stamps for collectors, all over the world. I buy from estates, sort out "messy boxes" and then resell the content in a far more organized way... mostly what I am trading is "expertise and connections."

=^..^=
