TUTORIAL: Creating my first tokenized photograph via lensy.io

(Edited)

A few days ago I was writing about lensy.io - a platform where users can create NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) by tokenizing their images. Lensy is powered by hive and it is very easy to use.

In this post you can see my first impressions and how I applied to become a verified artist. Why I selected lensy? But because it is easier for me, being in Hive - it already feels like home.

In this post, I will take you through the process of creating my first NFT out of a unique image of mine.

Artist Verification

To be able to create an NFT, you need to be verified. This is a manual process, and you need to have a photography portfolio to present. I was informed of my verification through their discord server, but this could be automated in the future.

When you are verified, a 'tick' is added next to your name.

What photo to select

This is my first NFT so it took me a long time to select an image to tokenize.

I wanted this to be a unique image. This means that nobody can reproduce it. The specific one that I will share today was shot a few weeks back at a favorite beach of mine. There was a very strange driftwood that came and was visible for one day only. It was stuck in the sand so it was no way to move it. When I went the next day it was gone, but I am not sure how it was removed from there.

The image was shot during sunset time, with a strange clouds cape - this makes it even more scarce and of course, unique.

How to tokenize

Go over to the link 'Tokenize' - and you will see this screen

image.png

I have enough Hive to tokenize 9 editions but I think I will go with a single one for this image.

I have yet to understand if it is better to have multiple editions or not. I assume that the unique editions can be sold more expensive?

Attention

image.png

Any information that will be entered, cannot be edited after it is saved. We are in the blockchain after all!

Upload Image

image.png

We will need a thumbnail and our image

image.png

We can create different collections and we will also need a title and a description for our image

image.png

You select if the image is fine art or Stock photography, that will also define the rights. Stock photography should be released with full Commercial rights.

Make sure you add relevant tags and also think if you would like to tell something to the purchaser .. something unique about the photo? I will think of something to add here :)

image.png

At the end, make sure you agree to the TOS

My first NFT!

This is the video of the photo ;) I hope you enjoy it!

This is the thumbnail

image.png

After you verify all the information, click on ' ISSUE TOKEN ' at the end of your screen

Go to the collection to see your photo and put it to sale

Screenshot57.jpg

Visit the 'collection' to see your new token!

You will see all the information that you have just entered and you will need to insert more info

I see that I can upload a file, but I am not sure what this is about. I entered a file name of the photo to be downloaded..
image.png

Let's go manage our NFT!

image.png

When you click on MANAGE - the button changes to ADDED

image.png

So when you click on the CART

image.png

Screenshot58.jpg

I have clicked 'SELL' and then I need to set its price to the little box

My price will be 40 Hive, at this rate - appx 5.63 USD which I believe is not much for a first time NFT! What do you think?

image.png

So this is my edition : )

Feedback

What do you think?

Was it easy? Would/Will you do it?
If yes, you can consider using my ref link lensy.io

Of course I will let you know if by any chance my piece is sold and I may even add a few more unique images!

Thank you so much for visiting!

Well, it looks like it was fairly straightforward... I didn't even know this site was part of Hive, so thanks for the info.

I wonder what it takes to become a registered artist?

=^..^=

It's not well known because the developers almost singularly refuse to promote it. I invested a bit of coin in minting some NFTs early on, and I wish that I didn't.

I do wonder why devs make things and don't market them. I hope that changes soon. We have a bull market, people are going to be looking for things like this, I can't understand why it's so difficult to find out about it.

This information is very useful for me personally. And this is what I've been waiting for. I have lots of stock photos that I share for free on the hive blog apart from selling them on other microstock.

Hello there my dear, one of my fave members on appics ^_^ Here is my detailed take.

I got to know what NFT's are through Enjin Coin (ENJ) from the gaming industry which I happen to share in publish0x last April 20, 2019. Definitely a brain-blasting info overload for me that time. I didn't actually know that it can also be used to validate our art-works soon after until this was proliferated by us... content creators.

Why I selected lensy? But because it is easier for me, being in Hive - it already feels like home.

It's always been a great factor for a platform to have ease in navigation. Home? Yes, you are a HIVE goddess! :)

The best thing here I must say is the VERIFICATION part wherein it will avoid dummy accounts to be draining the rewards pool.

I will save this link for a complete walkthrough of getting onboarded here.

Thank you so much for this and please stay patient using the appics app coz we had a lot of technical issues at the moment.

Cheers!

@fycee

BTW, your first NFT is a bomb! I also shared my first NFT. It's good that we are both in the same page knowing all these stuff. Hahaha

Hey, thanks for coming over! I saw your art, it is wonderful!
I was just very confused of what to do because I saw a mountain of unknown info on my screen when I tried to see whats in the link you shared :)

image.png

Anyways, I believe we got a lots to learn!
Are you on noise.cash?

I used the Hamian wallet there on top. It is a Telegram wallet where you can use to pay for the 2.000 Telos payment to mint your NFT.

Yes I am on noise too and even saw you post of the appics chamber.

Really a unique pic you selected, I like it!
Lensy seems to be a direct copycat to NFTshowroom (or the other way round).

Thank you!
I think that it is a copycat to NFTshowroom, they are the same platforms - one of them aiming for digital art NFTs and the other in photography.

Damn that’s cool !
I’m totally clueless on the topic so forgive me if I say something stupid.
I’ve seen NFTs in the auction part of dcity, could you push yours there as well ? Might give you more visibility and sure I’ll bet on yours if I see it there haha

Hey, thanks :))
I have absolutely no idea about how that works in dCity but I think I may have to join at some point :)
I try to learn more about NFTs because I am also clueless (in general) about the topic!

Congratulation.

creating one edition creates rarity, I guess it's a right decision.

I've read about it before, but the site looked almost dead to me; the idea of creating a few nft's from my photos crossed my mind but given that first impression, never actually done it. Maybe I need to give lensy another look! Since photography, especially wildlife, is one of my hobbies, it would be fun to create my first ever nft there. Thanks for this reminder!

loving the pictures, hope you sell some soon!
I heard about lensy, but also that there's not that much activity going on regarding sales.. that was a few months ago though, so may have changed.. Good luck selling, the picture instantly reminds me about summer :)

That picture is awesome! It looks like a creature, a wooden sea horse :<)

The process you shared of minting a piece look exactly like NFT showroom where I have been minting, buying and selling art in the last couple of months. The unlockable file can be seen as a bonus that you give to the person who buys your art. You can add a different kind of file / different media there. For one of my pieces on NFT showroom, I added an audio file where I read a little story I wrote, connected to the art work.

Have a nice day and congratulations on reaching the impressive number of 1 million views on pexels.
