Sometimes NO Business is Better than Bad Business

avatar

I have been working as a Psychic Hotline Worker for a few months now.

For the most part, I am extremely thankful that I can sit behind my computer screen and type out advice and generate an income.

However sometimes, I feel taken advantage of, and that is where the beautiful "block" button comes in.

When I just started, I really thought it was going to be more difficult to get clients. I thought I had to work hard. I thought I had to market myself and send out specials. I thought I needed to do MORE.

But it turns out I was wrong. There is a reason why I give the hotline a little more than half of the income I generate. The reason is that they keep the customers rolling in.

And for the most part, the customers LOVE me. I get great reviews.

(well there was that one 1 star review)

And having so many people feel happy after chatting with me, makes me feel like I am doing something worthwhile.

But, there's always that one client.

A few days ago I got an email

It was from a person I had never read for before, but they had an email of mine from when I had just gotten started. When I thought I had to promise rainbow farts so that people would give me a chance.

The email said: You offered me a $10 email reading before. And you gave me free minutes but they expired cause you were never online.

It doesn't take psychic powers to read through that email. I have been a teacher and I am a mom of four. I SEE when someone is giving excuses, and I SEE when someone is trying to blame me for their inaction.

But I said I would, and I promised, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

And I agreed to do the reading for a tiny percentage of what I usually earn.

And really fast, I figured out that I had made a mistake.

And I had to make a decision.

Do I keep working with this person, at an extremely discounted rate?

(like my leofinance blogs pay me more than this person who is sucking in my energy)

Or do I say, hey, I gave you your discounted reading. Now back off.

So I tried to be kind and explain, as best I could, that they were really demanding things that a Tarot Reader doesn't do. For example, I can't tell you how many minutes your husband watched porn last week.....

But then I looked up, and saw that it had been hours, and I had earned $5.98 USD, and that I was getting nowhere with this client.

I was wasting my time, evaporating potential earnings, and somehow making them feel WORSE.

Like here I was thinking that I was doing someone a giant favor for giving them $240 worth of tarot readings for $12 USD. And here they were, telling me that I was greedy and cheating them and not telling them what I needed to hear.

So I made my first really tough business decision.

And I blocked them.

And you know what.

It feels GOOD.

I get more clear on my worth every day.

I can't really empower people from a place of disempowerment now can I?

Totally I’ve had to walk away from a lot of money from clients who just don’t fit my style and it was killing me mentally

I wonder if I would have cut them off so easily if I was making "a lot" of money from them....

Thank you for relating.

I’ve had to fire a few clients as a personal trainer.

One outright told me, “Just so you know Wil, when I get home I’m NOT going to do these exercises.”

I fired him on the spot (even though he was my wife’s boss’s husband. LoL!) by saying, “Well just so you know... I don’t have to train you!”

He stormed out of the gym and I felt relieved! Hahaha! 😂

There’s nothing worse than someone saying that your their personal trainer when they are doing absolutely NOTHING you ask them to do... that might make them feel good but it makes me look like a terrible fitness trainer.

That’s one of my stories...

I’m glad that your self worth and mindfulness is expanding! You certainly made the right decision @metzli! 🙂

Thank you!

My mom got fired by her personal trainer. (LOL) she would not show up 15-30 minutes early to warm up and he got tired of getting paid to watch her walk in slow intervals.

My sister who paid for the session was a bit upset, but not at the trainer, she was mad at my mom.

I think I needed to hear this story. I try when I do favors to not do them for money, but some people just don't deserve it. (& I don't care if someone deserves my favor or not because when I do that, I usually do it for myself.)
