RE: Time Is Your Most Valuable Asset

I have this conversation with people starting out their IT career all the time. Companies will hire some kid cause they know he will work 60+ hours a week. Problem is most companies are now a salary structure. Regardless if you work 8 or 80 hours a week you get paid the same. Here's a life hack. It never works in favor of the employee.

I tell these kids not to make the mistake of working 80 hours a week to make an extra 15% next year. Its not worth it. Hell working 40 hours a week I can show you how to make 20% more selling on Ebay with the extra time you now have. Most of the time the 20 year old doesn't listen.

Speaking from personal experience, most people that have been working 60+ hours a week, the rate of heart problems, divorce, and drug addiction is pretty high. I don't ever hear about it in the media.

Preach it. To me, it's not just about the money. There has to be a balance between personal and professional life. I prefer being able to spend quality time with loved ones over working all day long just to make extra cash.

It's all a matter of priorities at the end of the day.

Thanks for reading and leaving a lengthy, thoughtful response.
