Coingecko updated their Hive information.

Thanks very much to the @coingecko support team.

10 days ago I wrote an article about the outdated information on the coingecko website in regards to Hive.

I tagged the support team on twitter and logged a direct ticket with their support team as well.

in the beginning I didn't expect to see any results. There was no reply on twitter to the outreach and their support team politely rebuffed my approach to update the information.

Hi,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
For this kind of request, please inform the project team to reach out to us directly regarding this issue.
This is to make sure that all requests are coming from the project teams for security purposes.
Thank you.

I sent them on a lot of the information in the last post that I created with the intention of showing them some of the points that could be highlighted with regards to the chain and then get some input from the witnesses on what could be there.

The post was here and you can see how poorly our chain was presented to the general public.

Today I logged in to find that the team had taken my text and used it to update the website with a lot more information and the infographics that I sent to them.

My intention was to open the lines of communication and consult with the witnesses to create a full narrative for our token but in the meantime I am happy to see a much more impressive picture of Hive presented to the wider public.

This is what they will find now when they look at the Hive page.

image.png

  • Reference and link to hive.blog.

  • Infographics.

  • Information on the eco-system.

  • HBD.

  • No mention of STEEM.

  • Links to on chain news, https://peakd.com/b/badge-321321

  • Even a sneaky link to Leopedia.

I think that this is a very positive move and delighted to see that after a little gentle persuasion that the @coingecko support team made some rapid changes after a few more emails back and forth.

Hi, X.
Thanks for the swift reply. As Hive is a decentralized blockchain there is no centralized point of contact for the project as it is ran by block producers and stakeholders. I do understand the security concerns with regards to unverified information so would your team have an existing point of contact from our witnesses or marketing team? If you can tell me who is your existing point of contact then I will get them to contact you directly and bring the page up to date.
Regards, Niall.

Hi,
Regarding this request, I have created a ticket to our Evaluation Team so that they can review the information you have provided. We will update you once we get a feedback from them.
Have a great day and stay safe!

It's great to see how the team responded so fast to my original ticket, followed up afterwards to my replies and then went ahead to complete the request.

I was delighted to log onto their site today and see the changes. It just goes to show that we can all do a little bit to grow the eco-system. even if it's something as silly as emailing a customer support team.

That is why they are the my favorite site to use for tracking tokens and portfolios for a long time. It would be great to see them posting to Hive and especially Leofinance again.

It wasn't the original plan for them to directly quote the examples but I do think that it's a significant improvement on the old page that was there last week.

That is so great. You are a real DAO member!!! These things are important. I tried btw to open wikipedia page for Hive, that is so not trivial, they closed me once for lacking reference and second time for using a similar user to the first one...
Kudos @coingecko for being much friendlier ;)

Good to make some connections in this space.

Now over time I'll try to build the coingecko community and draw in more users.

Also in good timing, I believe your contribution is part of the price soar trigger. Caring acting ambasadors of any platform are priceless.

Holy shit, excellent work!

If updating HIVE on CoinGecko was simply a matter of asking and providing the text, how the heck wasn't this done?

We're funding fucking movies but not picking up all of the high value, low-hanging fruit.

Gah, don't get me started.

Thanks man.

If updating HIVE on CoinGecko was simply a matter of asking and providing the text, how the heck wasn't this done?

Sometimes these things are so obvious that nobody sees them.

We have lots of devs doing great work but no business team or point of contact. The biggest flaw of a decentralized system.

Everybody is doing their own thing and there is no organization these things just get missed. We really do need to hire a couple of people full time from the DAO to work on all of these little issues and be constantly getting these little wins.

Reaching out to websites, creating marketing material, having a point of contact for people who want to help hive or get involved, create more noise. I know that we have guiltyparties but it should be a lot more to help those efforts.

Excellent work here @niallon11. Taking the bull by the horns and seeing the results, well done. This should help us to see more investment in Hive by showing people unfamiliar exactly what the eco system offers.

Thanks @ablaze.

It's only a small little step but all of these things count in the long run.

The more marketing and information that we can get out there the better.

I was surprised that it actually worked but great to see it.

It's been far too long now, I'm glad you stepped on that situation. Never felt coingecko will get that done pretty fast.

This is great news and progress is progress. Did you have to get a witness to be the go-between or did they just update after you went back and forth a few times?

Freaking awesome job mate. 🚀🚀🚀 This doesn't seem much to many people but it's highly important that we get our profiles right on all the Data Aggregator websites. Thanks for taking the initiative.

A huge shoutout to @coingecko for promptly resolving this.

That's one problem sorted at least. Now to go and try to find the next little job to help out.

Well done, maybe this refreshed information on coingecko stirred up some interest in our ecosystem?

55% bump overnight!? 😎👍🏼

I would love to claim that this is the reason but i've no idea where the pump is coming form.

Great to see it though.

Wherever it's coming from it's welcome. 👍🏼

Like many long term people on hive I've always thought that hive was way undervalued considering what the technology has to offer.

Scale, speed, distribution beats just about everything else in crypto. ☝️😎👍🏼

Let's see how long the pump lasts? I'm pretty impressed with $hive performance over the last couple of years. Consistency albeit undervalued.

It's great seeing decentralization in action. Great work! Btw is the coingecko account on Hive legit?

It's legit. The team used to be very active on the chain a couple of years ago and posted their reports here.

We'll have to try and get them active again.

Hey great job!
Can you also ask them to update their info/api for hive supply ... that is wrong for a long time.
They can use the same api as CMC.
If you got comunication chanel with them.

If you can give me more details then I will definitely ask them. Not sure if they will listen but they took the first request seriously so it might work.

I would hate to put in the request without having the full info.

I know nothing about API's or how the back end works so would you be able to give me the exact wording to use when i sent them the message.

Would you know which API, where to access ect...

thanks.

Ok so here it goes.

At the moment Coingecko shows a supply for Hive of 371,261,453 which is not the case no matter how you calculate it and I think they show the same number for years now.

As a source for their data for the supply they link the following:
https://hive-db.com/api/props, which is dead long time ago and doesn't show anything.

image.png

Now they can use

curl -s --data '{"jsonrpc":"2.0", "method":"condenser_api.get_dynamic_global_properties", "params":[], "id":1}' https://api.hive.blog

which has the

  • current supply, showing HIVE supply only,
  • virtual supply, that shows HIVE and HBD supply cumulative

Coinmarketcap uses the virtual supply.

More dev info here
https://developers.hive.io/apidefinitions/#condenser_api.get_dynamic_global_properties

That has all been passed on to the evaluation team at @coingecko.

Thanks @dalz for putting it all together as you know what your talking about and how to give them the right information.

I wouldn't have a clue how to tell them any of that as it's outside of my circle.
