Update On LEO & HIVE Power Needed Per "Rank" - Feb 17th 2021
Sorry folks! I totally missed the update for last month this side but I was deeply engrossed in accounting matters now that the HMRC are hot on our heels with regards to crypto here in the UK! I actually opened up so many spreadsheets in that time that I knocked the spreadsheet I used for these calculations out of "Recent Items"! Anyway, you didn't want to hear about my spreadsheet woes, let's have a look at the different levels needed per rank in LEO and HIVE and talk about your goals!
Goals
We should all have goals and these are really dependent on your own personal situation but for me, I like having a target to aim for as it keeps me motivated and I have that focus - as long as you don't burn out! The best way to prevent burn out is to make goals based around SMART principles:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Realistic
- Timed
An example on LEO could be to "reach x amount of Leo Power by y date", making it realistic in the process and adapting if necessary.
To help us with achieving our goals on HIVE/LEO, @hivebuzz and prominent figures in the LEO community have created different levels for us to get to with our powered up or staked crypto, depending on how much HIVE or LEO has been staked. The calculations I use can be found in an earlier post here and I've used the "circulating supply" for the tokens after a discussion with @onealfa.leo on my previous update.
Let's have a look at what you need today!

The circulating supply at time of calculating was 6,735,000 LEO. If total supply was used, the amount needed would be a little different with 978,500 LP needed for Toruk and you'd divide by 10 to get the rank beneath.
Last time, I said my goal was to get to 1,500 LP by the end of Jan but I'm floating around 1,466 LP now. I did send 202.2 LEO off to @lbi-token though for the LBI project but goals are goals - failed on that front haha! With the airdrops coming for Project Blank, I'll be staking more LEO though in the meantime. I'm getting about 2-3 LEO per day from delegating to @leo.voter and kept commenting/posting here and there so let's aim for 2,000 LP by the end of March!
With HIVE increasing in price over the last week, suddenly LEO got a little "cheaper" in relation to HIVE. It was 4:1 at one point, now about 2:1 so could be good chance to get a little more LEO in time for the airdrop!

HP is a little easier to work out as it tells you on Hive Block Explorer! Scroll down to "Hive per MVests" and it will tell you how much you need to be a minnow. Divide by 10 to get the redfish amount, multiply by 10 to dolphin, 100 for Orca, 1,000 for Whale and that's it!
For me, I reached my Orca goal at the end of last year and don't really have any set goals with HIVE for 2021 so just been leasing out some for HIVE to get more tokens and swap.btc, delegating to projects like CTP, LEO, Hustler etc... slowly but surely just building something up! I'm not a curator really, just a bloke who likes blogging so give my HP out to folks that can make some use of it!

Dang, those jumps are pretty intense. I was looking at the move from Puma to Lion, but then I saw Lion to Ikran. That is just nuts! Lots of wishful thinking to get me to that point I think!

That would be pretty cool. Especially since Leo seems harder to come by than Hive. Those extra tiers might give people that extra mental boost.

What grief have HMRC been giving you?
It's mainly just their approach to crypto taxation which meant I had to go back through 3 years of exchanges and declare income/capital gains. Since I use coinbase, HMRC have got all UK customer info from them so had to use Koinly to calculate everything.
When I called them up, they said all they need is a handwritten letter with declaration on, so I busted out the Parker Fountain pen ✒ 😁 However, that's all sorted now and am back in action.

Do you trade on Coinbase? I keep everything below the thresholds of having to declare. 12,500 income tax and 12 grand CGT. That way i dont have to report. Its not worth being in crypto now tbh the tax headache alone has killed it for me.
I used to buy my BTC there but not done that for a few months and I'm really small fry so not even getting anywhere near those thresholds and I've completely stopped my trading activity on all the exchanges. Still milling around on H-E but as none of those tokens are recognised other than WLEO, it's only when you withdraw from H-E that you need to consider anything. Reducing taxable events is something we have to adapt to in the UK!
What are you going to do regarding your HP stake? I guess if you keep it powered up then there's no need to worry!

My stake not sure, im not interested in cashing out until it hits 5 dollars but once we break 2 or 3 dollars ill start powering it down. Im going into XMR after that. Ill pay what i owe but i'm trying to just keep everything simple as possible for now and keep below any thresholds. My Hive curation is income as far as im concerned.
Yeah I'm probably going to be in the same boat but I'm not going to be on a mad man mission like I was in 2018. Good plan on keeping things simple, I've been reducing my KYC exchange activity to an absolute minimum - it's just the miscellaneous income that I'll be reporting once it's all powered down.

You might be using the "virtual supply" which is why it's a little different. I'm not sure what virtual supply is?

But i use total, including +HBD amount. Because those HBD's can be exchanged into HIVE any moment

Ah I see! Yes, I guess that would be what's meant by "virtual supply" then - the sum of HIVE + HBD equivalent in HIVE.

Had to do a bit of digging on my profile (man, I post quite a lot haha) but found the last update 2 months ago - I had the following calculated but have been in discussions with onealpha in that one too. We seem to get slightly different numbers!

So if you go off onealpha's calculations from December, you can see how it's changed from his comment on this current post then it's about a ~1.4% increase in the last 2 months.

Exactly and it would be nice to know the rate at which vote values are dropping as well, but that would possibly be trickier unless you have some type of formula.

We may need a few more levels at some point. The gaps get pretty big near the top and almost seem overwhelming to reach. One between dolphin and orca would be nice and maybe a couple between orca and whale. Fortunately, there are many fish in the sea and many cats in the jungle. Shouldn't be too hard although I'm not sure who would be in charge of that....?

Yeah I think you're right, the amount needed does go exponential as you go further up so maybe some "buffer" levels for the interim! I'm all for making up more names but my animal kingdom nomenclature isn't the best - if you can think of any and have some ideas let me know and I'll throw some in for the next month's update! These are mainly just for fun so wouldn't say they are "official" but if the Leo community is up for making some LP goals and ranks then I'm all for it!
