IS BEING A FULL TIME CONTENT CREATOR STILL FEASIBLE IN 2022?

The last time I wrote about this issue we were still enjoying the spoils of the bull run. Right now, things are a lot different. The market has been crashing gradually and the enthusiasm toward cryptocurrency has dwindled. Even after being in this space for the past 3 years, and seeing its highs and lows, I am slowly gravitating toward other things. There is little or no incentive to be here right now (well asides from the prospects of what this place/technology can be).

Now, this doesn't mean crypto is dead, far from that. There are a lot of interesting things going on in this space--too much to even keep up with. However, We are at an accumulating/building stage, where buying and earning cheap coins in the hopes of a favourable bull market in the future seems to be the plan for most people. Those who were able to capitalize on the last bull run are sitting pretty right now. For those who were unable to do so, well, they have a few lessons to learn.

Away from the general crypto market, let's look at hive, which is (mainly) a content-based platform. I know a couple of individuals who make a living creating content on hive. I used to be one of them and I did that even in the last bear market. However, a lot has changed since the last bear run, which makes it almost impossible for me or anyone at this point to live off their earnings on hive without overly pandering to certain curation groups or overextending themselves.

Creating content everything isn't the best for your creativity, and doing so with little rewards (esp if this is your major source of income) can take a toll on you. I won't advise anyone to put themselves in such a position right now. A couple of months ago I would have said something different but right now, it is really difficult for most people.

Also, there is a time constraint (which should not be enough for someone creating content full time). If you do have a job or any side hustle, putting in 4-6 hours on hive to engage and create might be too much. This time can be channelled into other creative endeavours that can generate more capital, which you can pull into the hive ecosystem.

In my opinion, it's almost impossible to make a decent living creating content on hive currently irrespective of where you live in the world currently. However, this can be a fun experience for you to learn about cryptocurrency and meet new people while making some tokens. Things have been a lot easier for me since I stopped seeing hive as a job. I barely write anymore due to my busy schedule, and there is a certain freedom that comes with knowing that this is an option I can forgo now.

Aside from creating content, there are still other opportunities within the hive ecosystem you can leverage on. There are communities looking for mods and curators; there are opportunities in the NFT gaming sphere on hive and many other things. Let's not also forget second layer tokens and communities on hive. They provide another opportunity to earn and contribute to projects within the hive ecosystem.

Also, you might want to look outside the crypto sphere to source other means of generating income. I understand that things are a bit difficult for many households during this period but it is imperative that we put our best foot forward and capitalize on opportunities as they come. I have had to sacrifice certain luxuries, just so I can meet my long term goals and I can say it is paying off.

Being a full-time creator on hive might not be as profitable as it was during the bull run but if you do enjoy creating content you can find a way around it that ensures you are not giving too much for so little. Create more income streams and accumulate as much as you can during the bear run. This is the best advice anyone can give at this point. Cheers!

A good analysis ! I'm lucky that Hive is more of a hobby/side hustle for me. I make a little bit from it, but focus on reading and creating content that interests me; I own a small business that is very time-intensive, so only get a little bit of time each day to focus on Hive.

But I feel that going forward, we should treat work in the same way we do an investment portfolio; diversification is the key. Having multiple different income streams reduces the impact if anyone of them fails.

True that. My life is a lot better now that I have other things doing with my spare time, which before now was spent strolling through my feeds

Some people are lucky on hive to be making decent money from just creating content but irrespective of what you earn on hive full time on crypto is not always a perfect idea and sometimes we need more than just creating content

Very well, @nonsowrites I do get your point. Even though you steered clear of giving a Yes/No answer to your topic question 😀. Really, to be on the safer side of the chain it'd better to have something else doing which is unlike the crypto space in terms of volatility. This may be an exception to some who know their ways and the nooks ans crannies of dealing with the system - they can choose to make it their sole priority.

hmmm... unfortunately, I know no other way of earning than writing, and currently I am ruined, coz crypto collapse and life also other instances.

I am glad I get some money out of here... its encouraging!! But tie consuming, because creating good content takes time and effort... on that front I never compromise.

I am trying to diversify, but again I don't know much away from crypto and writing. I had to take a small break from crypto, but again back, trying to understand it even more indeptly.

Anyway... Nice perspective.

But I am not a full time hiver, coz do crypto research... and although I am dwindled a lot in my enthusiasm, won't say passion is dead!!

I don't have dreams of getting rich or anything far from it but still who knows where you will go, if you get it right and things work for you!

Anyway

Well I think showing up regardless of the season in this space if one considers it as a long term venture is a better way to go about it.

Somewhere in the midst of the reds, there are gems to be found. And you can only find it if you are here and looking.

Living off content creating is far from easing, personally am not at that stage yet, am still fortunate at this stage not to be dependent on my crypto. I do agree with you here, while we are building our crypto portfolio, it will make a lot of sense generating income from elsewhere.
