THE CARSON CITY MORGAN SILVER DOLLAR.....

American History, and investments, you can have both!๐Ÿ˜€
Silvertop has always been a fan of the Morgan Silver Dollar, and then add on top of that a Silver Dollar minted from the Comstock Lode, and you have my attention!

IMG_5017.jpeg

General Services Administration launched the first "bid sale" of Morgan C.C. Silver Dollars on October31, 1972
The Minimum bid was $30.00......

These Silver Dollars were discovered after almost a Century bagged in vaults.

This 1883 Carson City Silver Dollar is one of the more common dates from the first bid sale.....at $30.00๐Ÿ˜€
They certified these as uncirculated, with possible bag marks.
Many Coin Dealers, "back in the day" warned people that because of the possibility of bag marks, many of these coins would not grade as Uncirculated.
Just my opinion, but I believe this was a ploy to get you to hold off and buy them from a reputable dealer at a higher cost of course๐Ÿ˜‡

Interesting that the Comstock's silver mines were rumored to have manipulated the mining share stock price on the San Francisco stock exchanges......
Rumors or assessments drove the price down, shares were bought cheep, and the later rumors of large Silver discoveries were circulated to drive the price back up......
Nothing new under the sun my friends, can we say Crypto!๐Ÿ˜‡

That is an awesome coin @silvertop! I was one year and a day old on the first day of the bid sale so, you know, no money. :D
I agree with you that Morgan dollars are one of the nicest US coins ever made. Really cool my friend.

I was surprised to find the melt value on the information page about this Morgan.

I could live with a CC Morgan bag marks and all, I think make them more authentic anyway IMHO.

Awesome piece of Silver History @silvertop

So very true @kerrislravenhill, I can't believe that my LCS back then was going to grade a bag marked "uncirculated Morgan" as circulated....

Even the battered Morgans are so nice @monsterjamgold....
My very first Morgan was in a large clear block of plastic. I bought this paper weight at a neighborhood yard sale for $1.00.
I chiseled the Morgan out with a hammer and screwdriver, I still have that same Silver Dollar to this day with one tiny little speck of plastic stuck in the corner. It actually came out without damage!๐Ÿค—
