The Benefit Of Facebook Becoming A "Metaverse" Company

There is a benefit to Facebook becoming a Metaverse company. It sounds a bit strange considering the criticism I levied at the company and Zuckerberg. While it stands that they deserve every bit of it, a transformation is taking place.

A few months back, the concept of the Metaverse was completely foreign. Most had no idea what it was. They simply could not see what would unfold and where it is all going.

While much of it is still in the abstract, some is becoming clearer. We now have the opposite issue where the term is being watered down from overuse. It appears many are talking about the Metaverse, applying it to everything.

Here is where Zuckerberg's announcement could really help.

Focus Upon The Virtual World

Since the lockdowns started due to COVID, we saw a massive shift to the digital world. We are all aware how video conferencing became the norm in the last year and a half. This was a technology that was around for most of the past decade yet the majority only just discovered it.

Part of the issue is that not a lot of attention was given to what different technologies could do. This makes sense since they were constructed in haphazard ways, with few linking together. Therefore, people really did not have much of a conception of how remote work was truly possible.

Facebook is one of the largest companies in the world. It is also one of the most recognized. For this reason, its emphasis on the Metaverse is helping to guide people's focus. Over the next few years, people are going to understand the concept a lot better as things unfold.

The eyes are starting to turn to the virtual world. Here again, we see a technology that existed for a number of years, albeit in embryotic form. More attention will only hasten the path forward since the demand will start to build.

What is also coming to the surface is the possibilities. This is another area where people tend to be limited. They simply are not conditioned to look at what could result. Instead, they are naysayers believing they are more knowledgeable than some of the greatest minds working on this stuff.

It is easy to say "that will never work" when one truly has no knowledge about how it is even done. For the last 20 years we saw the likes of Musk, Jobs, Bezos, and, yes even, Zuckerberg do things that nobody thought possible. They all had their detractors, people who were repeatedly proven wrong.

Cryptocurrency Detractors

We obviously see the same thing with cryptocurrency. For the last 5 years, there were members of the establishment who did nothing more than bash cryptocurrency. Some of it was because they were threatened while much was because of a lack of understanding.

Now, we are starting to see how truly transformative cryptocurrency can be. This is not just another asset class like the mainstream media makes it out to be. Instead, we will likely see all assets converted to cryptocurrency at some point.

What is forming is some of the groundwork for the Metaverse. Cryptocurrency and blockchain are core pieces of what will be utilized going forward. Naturally, these are far from the only components yet, with Zuckerberg's interest, we can see how there is a lot more still to be done. We also now have the need of expanding our focus from just the financial aspect of cryptocurrency.

The detractors of cryptocurrency see it nothing more than a financial instrument. Their belief is that it cannot compete with what is already established. It is interesting to see how existing entities cannot compare to what will be developed in the virtual realm.

We already witnessed how many industries were completely transformed (or obliterated) by the Internet. This was a revolutionary technology that, in comparison, is in its infantile stage. It is going to get a lot more advanced over the next couple decades.

Zuckerberg also shows how it is a process. This is not something that will emerge by the end of the year. It is a multi-year plan, starting with the idea of a "virtual conference room". While that might sound basic when it compares to the ideas put forth in the film Ready Player One, it shows how young our technology truly is. Again, a lot of work has to be done.

In the end, we all need to expand and open our minds up. There are changes that will occur which many will view as "miraculous". We are entering the realm where Sci-Fi does meet reality. This means that much of what we know, and take to be true, will change. It cannot be emphasized enough that every aspect of live will be altered over time.

We can expect the hype cycle to occur. This is already forming which will lead to a bust at some point. Do not be fooled by this. Keep an eye on the development, especially after the media gets tired of talking about the Metaverse and it drifts from their consciousness. That is when the real progress will be made.

Watch for other companies to follow Zuckerberg's lead. We already see gaming companies expressing the desire to get into blockchain gaming.

This is only going to expand over the next couple of years. It is best for us to be prepared for it and position ourselves to benefit from what is taking place.

It likely will be the greatest transformation over the past 100 years.

I was waiting for this post. I saw you posted a video but my English is limited.

Since I knew about cryptocurrencies I have been dedicated to teach people its importance and use, since the beginning and my ignorance on the subject, but there was more information than there is now from the metaverse. How do you think we who are not developers can become specialists on the subject to teach others?

The other doubt I have is if this is not going to help the State to exert more control in our lives. Then I saw the list of articles you have done on the subject and I think that might be where the answer lies. I'm going to read them because I think I missed some.

Thanks for shedding light on this

For myself, I read a lot about the subject. We do not need to know the fine details of how it works to use it and benefit. For example, few of us have any idea how the Internet works, nor do we care.

I would recommend just reading as much as you can on the subject to get a firm basis in what is taking place.

Also, keep in mind what you learn about cryptocurrency and blockchain also are part of it.

He will be outdated if decentralization is truly embraced by the masses. His ilk requires centralization since that is what the business model is constructed upon.

The wold is changing, it is obvious now. Coronavirus was the trigger.

Was changing long before that. That helped to pull things forward, perhaps accelerate some trends already in place.

However, most of this was building for the last 15 years.

The announcement was a bit unclear, until you talked about it here. Firstly I thought it was just the name of Facebook changing to meta, I didn't know there was more. One thing is, the internet is advancing... Becoming better, I guess Zuckerberg is a visionary, he's seeing the strings he needs to pull on behalf of Facebook.

He is a smart dude and a visionary.

Yet he is also part of the siloed system that benefits a select few.

I believe, he'll keep benefiting off people who are too naive to break through. But firstly I'm applauding him for the Idea of Facebook changing into meta

Sci-Fi does meet reality

It makes me wonder if we will really be doing space travel or will most of that end up being replicated in the VR/AR space to give people the same feeling but without the dangers.

Personally I think the later but that is me. I know there are a lot smart people working on the former but there are so many challenges with the human body in space.

My sense is that we will advance AI far more rapidly which will allow us to be immersed in the experience and search the our solar system in that manner.

Zuck wants to sell the Oculus at cost. It has always been my belief that he will eventually give them away for free. If this happens you will see a meta onboarding event like never before.

My guess is they are losing money on each headset and he doesnt care in the least. I did not consider the free headset but I bet you are right. To him, it is about the control which he will eventually monetize.

Scary thought of how everyone will run out and grab one.

Congratulations on this good post. And so it is, already in this digital world that brought quarantine, remote communication, the virtual community, blockchains are now and they came to stay and expand. and we are here being part of them

This is not just another asset class like the mainstream media makes it out to be.

Hell yeah. That's what makes me believe more and more that a super cycle for crypto might be in play. Ten year from now, and the space will be whole lot different, the way we will interact with technology will be more homogenous. All that might come at a cost of less human interaction, but it's a shift we can not ignore.

Ten years from now, it stands to reason that we might see most of the world's assets tokenized. That could be too short of a time frame but it is going to happen.

My guess is we start to see more done with real estate in the next few years.

Imagine all the data he could harvest for his stakeholders, the DoD and intelligence community being among them. I'd imagine the Oculus, at that time, will have something that can render our thoughts installed for good measure. He'll be sure to leave that out of the User Agreement.

loved your post! I suspect the metaverse will also propel a ton of other crypto currencies that are more 'metaverse' related to the moon as well.

Wow, it's really happening, or I guess - taking off. One of the "best things" is that, no matter how we (humans) try to project the future, we can never really map the exact course of future events.
The metaverse, digital world, and virtual reality - Maybe this would finally be the technology AND hype that gives this field groundbreaking explosion.

It has always seemed bizarre for me to think of VR games and Spaces and still see them struggle to go mainstream. Finally, we've got something!

I think it gives free marketing to everything related to the metaverse. But knowing Facebook as a data collector company, I wouldn’t use their metaverse.

But it is clearer that the metaverse, crypto and blockchain will be the future even if haters don’t like the idea.

Ready Player One had mass inequality, a giant evil corpo-gov structure, near zero civil infrastructure around core rights but had a dope metaverse too.....

Why do you tools want to be enslaved on the chain so bad? Giving up on the real world is a positive feedback loop..."innovation" means greedy bastards pilfering Nature's coffers.

I fucking hate what blockchain is turning into.

Mega companies like Facebook with an eye for future trends may either be the drivers for Blockchain mass adoption or it's hindrance, but one thing is certain; the people will be the decision makers
