Money through mastery

On a certain day 3 years ago, my mother told me something I think I'll never forget. She said, "you have so many amazing skills, but you're a master of none". I felt it and it got me thinking a lot.

At the time she told me that I was running around in circles with numerous activities taking my attention all at once. I was singing at church, co-ordination activities for the church youth group, giving speeches for my network marketing business, interning at a radio station, and trying to do one or two activities here once in a while.

I was everywhere all at once. I was also broke and frustrated. None of my activities paid me well enough or even at all. I was just at that point where I needed to just do something. Anything to keep me away from myself and my thoughts.

My mother saw all my activities and then she made that statement. That's when I realized I had been so busy pulling myself through so many things that I had forgotten to grow myself.

I decided to become a master at something. So, I picked out all my activities and decided to improve on one skill every year. I gave up on those tasks after my one-year service program.

However, after my service, I've focused on one major skill I've often written about - Writing. Even though I'm not a master yet, I see major improvements in my craft.

When I think about wealth creation in a country like Nigeria, Mastery always comes to mind. Starting a business requires funds, however gaining mastery requires (a lot of funds, yes) a lot of resilience and brainpower.

I spent some time with a friend who has developed a lot of mastery in his craft and his activities, constantly reading and improving even though he's very good, makes me understand why mastery is everything.

While we publicize skill development and personal growth, a person with the right skillset would still need to suffer in a dead-end business for at least 5 years before gaining proper profits.

However, what separates the greats from the rest, is their mastery. While I may not be in the best position to mention this topic due to my record of incomplete projects, I have a lot of knowledge about this due to my record of incomplete projects.

Starting a business from scratch is hard, however, you can take the lead in monetizing a skill that is highly sought out for, when you have attained a given level of mastery.
