Standing in front of the mirror, Cesar watched his mustache begin to grow, which could make him look a little more attractive, unless his face was full of pimples. He took the neutral soap his aunt had recommended and washed his face.

-Well, at least I can't see my greasy face for a moment- he said to himself as he put on the extra small shirt his mother had given him on his birthday. The ribs were quite noticeable in that scrawny body, his bony cheekbones and his slender legs made him look sick, but with all that and his short stature, he had been chosen to be a master of ceremonies in the absence of Juan who had been sick.

The day of the ceremony had arrived, nervousness invaded his body, but he felt confident, because he had been reading a lot about how to speak in public. He adjusted his tie and stood to one side of the stage to wait for the indication that he was going to enter to the scene, but to his surprise the ceremony began without him. Juan, the director's son, had returned and took his place.

First he felt annoyed, because they hadn't even warned him, then he felt relieved, because he would no longer have to speak in front of all his high school classmates. He was just getting ready to return to the ranks of students when the writing teacher caught up with him.

-Cesar, how long do you need to write a speech about love and friendship? The companion who was going to say it felt nervous and did not come- said the teacher.

"Nothing," he replied.

"If you want I can come in and talk about that topic right now," he added.

A few minutes later, Cesar spoke about the subject with mastery in front of his classmates, his presentation was so shocking that he received applause that lasted a little longer than usual.

Again he was about to join the other students when the same teacher caught up with him again.

-Cesar, how good are you at reciting poems? Diana didn't come either because she gave her rubella.

Cesar agreed to recite as long as he was allowed to use one of his own poems. Once again the slim young man took the stage. His performance was such that he ended up bathed in tears, again taking a huge ovation.

The next week would be the public speaking competition, of course the chosen one was the principal's son, but at the last minute the teachers' board decided to send Cesar.
