Idea triggers / Disparadores de ideas

Most of the time the idea to write, at least in my case, comes unexpectedly, it can be at the most inappropriate hours in fact, like while I sleep or at lunchtime. Sometimes I wish I had enough time to develop them all, but other times I just can't think of anything.

On the other hand comes the detail of choosing an image to illustrate it, which for me is a problem because I do not use images from other sources, I only like to use photographs that I take myself or some drawing or painting that I do, sometimes it is the other way around, I first make the image and then I write.

One of the tools that I use to start writing is what I call "triggers", these can be an image that I have created as I mentioned above, a situation that I observe, or a word or phrase that someone else provides as in the initiatives of @theinkwell and freewrite that promotes @mariannewest and @ latino.romano. From there the idea begins to take shape until I decide whether it is a story or a poem or both.

Sometimes ideas are so many that I end up postponing the writing, writing only the initial ideas to use them when it is clearer, and other times the idea seems to develop by itself, the words are emerging in a fluid way until there is something that stops them, either because I no longer have time to write or because there are several possibilities for the end and I can not find what to decide. Sometimes I end up writing all the possible endings, reducing them to those that are more contrasting.

As an example of this I recently wrote the story: The legend of the young old woman that has four endings:

Ending 1

Ending 2

Ending 3

Ending 4

Other times I do it as a contest and I only write the final that gets the highest number of votes. This could be one way to promote more interaction.

But hey, you might want to share what your idea triggers are.

Greetings to all.

Triggers! Good word for the thing that might inspire us to write. I like your mention of the daily #prompt @mariannewest supplies via #freewritehouse, along with the initiatives of @theinkwell.

One of the tools that I use to start writing is what I call "triggers"...From there the idea begins to take shape until I decide whether it is a story or a poem or both.

Earlier today, I was thinking of these triggers as the grain of sand that irritates the clam into producing a pearl. Someone has surely written of this before, in relation to writing, but I haven't found anything yet, so maybe I'll be the first to blog about writers as irritated clams. Some of us may in time produce a pearl... gems of wisdom, a pearl of great price, you know what I mean. But will I expand on that thought, or drop it and move to a new "trigger" or prompt, or just get lost in someone else's stories? I could start with the legend of the old young woman and four possible endings to her story. :)
Thanks for this gem, @saulos.

Thank you very much, I do really appreciate your words.

I have always refer the thing or situation that inspire us, as a trigger or as a spark because it produces a light that gives illumination and ideas, since I was a child in fact. Some times I feel that some part of me has already think the whole story, perhaps my subconscious as I dreamed, but

grain of sand that irritates the clam into producing a pearl.

is really great because describes the whole creative process, instead the trigger only starts the process and sometimes goes off. I would love to read your post where you develop that idea.

Greetings @carolkean
