Writing Prize Collaboration

We want to ensure high quality editing for the writing prize entries. The Ink Well's suggestion is that writers collaborate with another person on Hive to read and help them edit their entry before submitting it.

Everyone will benefit from working with someone else to edit their story, but it is especially aimed at non-English speakers. We suggest that editors are included as a 10% beneficiary in the post.

Please tell us what you think about this idea in the comments and tag anyone who might be able to help with editing.

(Oh yes - remember to vote for this post and follow @theinkwell)!

I feel like I will get a lot of shares before I start publishing stories here. But it will happen soon enough. 😅

I think that's an obvious idea for non-English writers, I totally agree

Do you know of anyone who could help with editing?

Not yet, but if in my opinion the writer is still writing in English, editing only corrects the correct sentence or word, because not all of these areas are in English.

At its best, a good editor can help a writer say what they want to say.

Something fun I did this week? I submitted my application for the Community Builder vacancy
If you wish to apply learn all about it here

Regarding editing, I think it is a good idea to add the editor as beneficiary. And another option could be to work in teams. But I guess it is up to each writer to decide what to do so their stories are reviewed and ultimately be better.

Grateful to be one of the winning HBIs, I had no idea hehehe

My week has been active, I went up the mountain to install a radio communication equipment for the radio amateurs in the country. Can be connected via repeaters the state of La Guaira with the other states in the country. The view is spectacular, I guarantee it, here is a picture of it:

photo_20201211_234011.jpg

Writing has been scarce, but I still have time to write in my notebook a little. Another relevant event is that yesterday in my work I was in the rescue operation of some people trapped in the derailment railroad of the Caracas line, between Mamera and Caricuao, two stations of the line. Both experiences were fruitful for future narratives.

That sounds a very full week! I am sorry to hear about the derailment, I hope everyone was rescued safely. The view in your picture is tremendous.
Thank you for sharing your week!

Greetings to all, I am glad that you care about the authors of other languages, but my opinion is that each work has a content and a vision and should be led by its author, a single word that someone changes in the translation, could take it from a way very different from the intention of the author, although this puts us at a disadvantage, is my humble opinion.

(Edited)

Hello @gilliatt, thank you for joining the conversation.

An editor may benefit anyone, not only speakers of other languages. At its most basic, an editor may help with proof reading.

But many writers here are using Google Translate, or another similar machine translator, and it does terrible things to their writing. The syntax is mangled, pronouns are interchanged, words are substituted which the writer never intended. Often, as English readers, we can interpret the intention of the writer from the context, but sometimes I have read translated paragraphs so distorted that I am not able to unravel what the writer is saying (and it may have been said perfectly in the writer's own language).

There is no obligation to collaborate with an editor, but the option may help some people.

The idea is great. Everyone needs someone in life to grow to a state of partial independence. Grammatical errors could occur without writers been aware of it, carried away In the euphoria of their writing. collaborating with another writer could help breach that errors and making them the 10% beneficiary of that post isn't a bad idea.

This has been an emotionally tough week; however, I have been able to cope with the circumstances by concentrating on working with my students at the university; and also infected with people's joy for Christmas.

At the same time, I am working on the story that I will submit for the writing award. In that case, I aspire to have the support of Professor @hlezama, a bilingual and literature specialist. I also agree to share 10% of the profits of the publication, and, if obtained, also of the prize.

I share an image of the Christmas work being done in front of my house:

My week has been more active. I have been making food and got the chance to get some writing done after a long period without diving into fiction. I can say that at least poetry has kept me working, which is not the same but it is some practice.

I love the idea of the Hive Power Up Day. So would the idea be the same? Powering Up the first day of the month and giving a prize for that? I don't remember if the day works taking into consideration how much you power up. Maybe it is just random and takes into consideration who does it.

It would be a fine idea. Investing in your account is the best way to help Hive grow and also make this fine community stand out inside Hive and in the internet in general. All this is another path toward the goal of helping writers find a steady income for their work. Where do I sign? 🤣

I like all these steady plans towards the final goal. When I get more HP, will definitely delegate some over here to make my contribution. Meanwhile, keep up you awesome work!

So would the idea be the same?

Yes, it would be the same - and the same criteria. So a minimum of 10 hive powered up, and various other rules like minimum and maximum Hive Power, and minimum and maximum reputation.

Making food sounds a good way to spend the time 🙂

Excellent. Count me in for that. I have been thinking that since I'm not going to use the money generated here, it will go into the account to make it bigger. Maybe in some future I'll be able to live from my income, but for now it is an investment.

Making food sounds a good way to spend the time

It is for sure! I'm making pizza right now! 😄

Hello @theinkwell I love the idea of a Ink Well accompany post alongside the HIVE Power Up Day. I participate in the HIVEPUD every month. I'm happy to hear I'll have another opportunity for additional resources with your proposal. Count me in, as I'll visit your Friday Fun Hive Power Up Day Post and support it as best I can.

This is an awesome initiative that benefits all members of Hive.

Hello, I think the idea of receiving support for the translation of the stories is excellent for those of us who do not have English as a mother tongue. Someone who could help in that regard would be @amaponian
