Banco De Oro Universal Bank (BDO) is one the Philippine’s major banks. The bank was formed since Banco De Oro and the Equitable PCI Bank has merged. It is owned by the SM Group of Companies, one of largest conglomerates in the country and owner of the SM chain of Malls. From the mergence of the two banks, Banco De Oro retain the ticker symbol of the old Banco De Oro it has a larger share than the Equitable PCI, BDO has Php.1.3 Billion compared to Equitable PCI’s Php.727 Million . It has become the largest bank in the country in terms of assets, loans and deposit.

The bank is divided into different subsidiaries and affiliates.

The original Banco De Oro was founded on Januray 2, 1968 it started off as a thift bank balled ACME Savings Bank with only two branches in Metro Manila, at that time, it was one of the smallest banks in the country. The Sy Group later on acquired the bank on 1976, it then was renamed Banco de Oro Savings and Mortgage Bank. It then became a commercial bank in 1994 and on September 1996, it became a Universal Bank. Before the 21st century, BDO continued to expand. When the Equitable PCI Bank accepted the merge offer, the bank was then renamed as Banco De Oro Universal Bank (BDO UniBank).
