How to create a strong identity for your business?

Dear Hivers

One of the first concerns of a future entrepreneur is the choice of a name and a logo for his company.
Often, this question also precedes reflection on the company's strategy, the development of the business plan or financial projections.

But it's actually far too early to be effective!

In search of an identity.
Creating a logo is a complex job . Beyond the elegance and the particularity of the design, it is above all a question of creating and revealing a brand in order to make it memorable; it is also about conveying the values of your company. It is therefore very important that this logo is well thought out and in line with your strategy . Because a company that pays little attention to its visual identity immediately shows its customers its lack of professionalism. Just as your appearance and outfit play a role in how others perceive you, so your logo and the name of your product or service make a first impression on your customers. And thisfirst impression is sometimes decisive.

We therefore advise you to call on a professional to create your logo and to seek advice in choosing the name of your company or the brand of your product. Or, at the very least, consider the 5 golden rules of creating an effective logo and test your logo with a group of "neutral" people.

Rule # 1: Your logo will be simple.
Design should be easy to recognise with appealing effect. The simpler your logo, the more it stays in memory. Many examples come to mind: Apple, Nike, VW, CNN, Bayer, etc. Whatever the field of activity, world-famous companies have chosen logos that are simple and easily recognizable all over the world. Think about it if you are thinking of expanding your international business and make sure your name | logo is understandable in all languages.

Rule # 2: Your logo will be balanced.
It should be balanced in color and should be appealing. To achieve such harmony, your logo must focus on the balance between graphics, colors, typography. The dimensions of your logo also matter: don't forget to test the readability of your logo in different sizes. The name and graphic details should remain visible and understandable even if you downsize your logo (consider using it on envelopes, your letterhead, etc.). Also consider the restrictions specific to certain media or social networks (which often require a display in a square).

Rule n ° 3: your logo will control its colors.
Color theory is very complex, but if you apply a few basic rules, you will minimize the risk of errors:

colors evoke feelings and moods and they do not necessarily have the same meaning from one country to another
the choice of a color palette (warm or cold) is important because it reflects the spirit of your brand
the choice of a particular color or an “innovative” color combination can become a distinctive sign (eg John Deere green, Coca Cola red, etc.)
Please note : your logo must be able to be available in black & white , in grayscale, or even in two colors and always remain pleasant to the eye!
Rule n ° 4: your logo will choose an exclusive typo .
The choice of a typography is more subtle than it seems. Whether the typeface is included in the logo or as a "hook", you will need to test a number of typos before you find one that fits the design perfectly. Three points to consider:

Avoid banal typographies (Arial, Times New Roman, etc.), too ornamental or artisanal. Prefer an exclusive typo (some striking examples: Twitter, Google, Coca Cola, Walt Disney).
Make sure the typeface is always readable , even when you reduce your logo to the size of a postage stamp.
Choose a single typo , two at most.
Rule n ° 5: your logo will be original
Remember, the primary purpose of your logo is not to decorate but to build your notoriety .
The big brands have understood it so well that only one element of their logo allows the brand to be recognized (we think of Windows, Nike, Mac Donald, Caterpillar, and many others).

To create an original logo , which will distinguish you from the competition, it is imperative to innovate and create your own style.
You will find a lot of sites on the net offering free or low cost formulas for logo creation, but this is not how you will stand out! Also, avoid copying someone else's style and design. It is unsavory, even illegal. Be unique , create your own identity! Take risks, try different color combinations, experiment with different graphics and typographies, until you find a logo that suits you perfectly.

The key to creating an effective logo is to combine all the elements mentioned: size, style, color, typography and originality . If you neglect any of these aspects, you are compromising the quality of the final design.

What do you think of my logos?

The first, the island, is for my project company, blokz.io, a self help and personal development orientated project. the other is the hive logo reimagined as a flower for a community.

Hello friend, I congratulate you!

The logo of The Island with the tree and the Moon seems great to me, it is very attractive, it seems to me it has a lot to do with the idea it raises.

The second logo for hive is very good too although I would like the rose to be a softer color like pink.

How I commented on another post, minimalism is very useful because it makes the brand or company easily remembered.

I want to add that an important factor to take into account when designing a logo, it is attractive and concrete, which demonstrates in a simple way the idea or the main focus of the company or brand.

An example of something great is the Peakd logo, it is very simple and I really feel very well done 👍🏼

Very good advice to take into account, the logo is something that people will always associate with a brand, and it is the first thing they will observe when looking for a product, so it must be something very well thought out. Not everyone takes it into account, I have seen logos very loaded with images that in a reduced size are not distinguished, something that undoubtedly compromises the recognition of the brand.

Thank you @adityajainxds for your recommendations, without a doubt the advertising and logo of the company or business that we start is our entry signal to customers, if our stamp meets the requirements that you set, it will allow us to have good results in the future

Hi @adityajainxds
The use of colors is something transcendental in all this about company logos. What has to do with the psychology of color is very important in this process of creation.
Each color and its respective tonality is what makes it eye-catching, added to the shapes used in the logo.
