Part 2 - The e-reputation medal

This is the continued part of the yesterday model hope you like yesterday article.

The heads and tails of this medal, all the traces - mastered or not - that you print on the web, constitute your e-reputation . It is therefore the image that emerges or the feeling that emanates from your virtual presence. And just as you pay attention to the image you convey in your relationship with others, so you will benefit from taking care of your virtual (brand) image.

In an article entitled The design of visibility: an essay on the typology of web 2.0 , sociologist Dominique Cardon offers an interesting typology of the different forms of online presence. It determines 5 formats organized on the digital identity / type of visibility duo sought.

  1. The screen (hiding to see yourself): this is the very principle of dating sites.
  2. Chiaroscuro (show hidden): participants make all or part of their intimacy and daily life visible to a social network of relatives
  3. The lighthouse (show everything, see everything): visibility here is the object a real quest and a search for maximum connectivity
  4. The “lanterna magica” (seeing oneself but hidden): the participants take the form of avatars, with the aim of dissociating real and virtual identity.
  5. The post-it (I'm here, I do that): the participants make their availability and presence visible to everyone, but only interact with a small circle.

This analysis clearly shows that no activity or behavior is neutral on web 2.0. You still have to be aware of it and know how to manage all your interventions to remain coherent.

As you will have understood, your online reputation is built and managed ... and several tools help you. This is what we will see in the second part of this article.

I must confess that I had never read about it, I had not seen the possibility of applying a sociological study to the different behaviors we can see on the web. It is really interesting. Thanks for sharing this information.
