Dream with Dream Pop

I am a person completely craved for music, I listen to music all the time, every day, I just do not listen even when I prefer the real and deep silence of nature. And in the middle of this sound vortex, I spend a large part of my life looking for and listening to new things, I have some difficulty in spending too much time listening to the same songs (I like to think that they spend and prefer to listen less often to keep them fresh in my mind) , but of course, I am a person who has favorite songs and favorite bands, as well as genres.

Music genres are a separate theme, some friends even find it funny when I comment something like: - Wow! This song has a shoegaze footprint but it also pulls into experimental progressive space rock!
And it is not to complicate too much or seem understood, it is because after all, each song has its genre and variation, it is difficult for you to classify in less detail than necessary! I'm making this return in the introduction of the post to get to where I would like, which is, to talk about one of my favorite genres, one of the ones I was most happy to discover. The Dream Pop.

I remember exactly when I absorbed this concept clearly. I was lying on a mattress that I had placed on the floor of an "arts" room that I had in the old house I lived in, it was a room for listening to music, for painting, playing, drawing, getting high and talking, etc. I was with my ex-girlfriend in that nocturnal state of "hypnagogy", when we started to enter a mild hypnotic state of sleep, and I had left playing the CD that I bought in a bookstore by Cocteau Twins, Heaven or Las Vegas. I knew Cocteau by some random clips and some songs, I knew it was a traveling sound, but I saw them as a variation of Dead Can Dance or something. It was only by listening to Heaven or Las Vegas that I "understood" what was at stake there. In particular, I remember that this "awakening" happened while listening to "Cherry-Colored Funk", and this song hit like a wave of delusional and anesthetic vapor in that pre-sleep state. Someone is about to be born with the voice and vocal mechanics of Elizabeth Fraser, that really got to me and I was never the same again.

I quickly fell in love with the concept that I discovered was practically run by them, Dream Pop. And little by little I found other bands almost as good. Like Slowdive, which is just incredible, and others a little smaller but still very good from that time. Some bands I discovered quite late, such as the incredible Beach House, which does not lose anything to Cocteau, and has a nostalgic and intense unquestionable potential.

For more interested in the genre I decided to leave a list of Dream Pop bands here. It is very worthwhile to go deeper and even search for some playlists on Spotify. Even for those interested, this is a playlist I'm still creating, but it's already full of classics:

This is a short article just to show my love and interest in the topic, but whenever possible I will be here talking about some bands that make my life feel pulsating. I appreciate your reading and your vote!

Eu conheço pouco sobre Dream Pop, mas o som do Cocteau Twins é massa demais! Vou procurar ouvir as outras indicações do teu post.

Whilst I don't have the same level of understanding about every sub-genre that you do I also love to discover new artists. I find the Spotify personalised weekly playlist great for this.

Do you only listen to mainstream music or do you like to work your way through independent music too? Did you know the Rising Star has an in-game radio that features lots of Hive musicians?

Also if you would like to discover some of this music with a live audience then I would like to invite you to our Sunday show - Radio Evolved on our Atom Collector Records YouTube channel.

This post has been manually curated by Jux from Rising Star on behalf of #musicforlife.
