exploring hills above Ihan

avatar

Ihan is a town near Domžale which is a town near Ljubljana. This afternoon we went to Vir, another small town near Domžale. I took kids to the shop so they can feast on loads of Hot Wheels toy cars they have there very cheap. They are Euro apiece while in other stores they are at least 2.30 Euros. Quite a difference.

I gave them one hour and a half for exploring and shopping and went for a run. The idea was to run flat and steady. The execution was halfway there.

At first, I went to Dob, another small town.

By the river, I noticed this nice beehive. It's actually a recreational area with a playground, info tables, and beehives. Very nice.

Around the corner and following the road I bumped into this signpost. Beware of frogs.

In spring, when frogs cross the roads en mass there are volunteers to carry them across. Otherwise, a lot of them get squashed by cars.

Here the interesting and exploring part started. I turned off the asphalt road and into the woods. It wasn't planned and I didn't know the area. All I knew was a general direction of where to run.

There were some signs about hiking paths that promptly disappeared when in the woods.

After a couple of hundred meters, the path disappeared. I continued through the thorny bush.

Eventually, I came to a beaten path again, sort of.

The path was nice and soft. Even too soft at most places. Days of heavy rain combined with the tracks that forest workers left resulted in mud, a lot of mud.

My shoes weren't meant for this sort of terrain. No problem, slipping and sliding in the mud is a sort of strength exercise.

There were many nice pools outlined with mud to run around which added to the fun.

Back in the civilization and on an asphalt road. It was all the way down from here onward.

I came down to Ihan and continued to Domžale where I ran along the Rača creek. It' was almost as green as the bush and trees surrounding it.

After this beautiful section, it was open street and asphalt all the way back to the store.

The altitude profile tells the story of not going flat all the time. I love variety.

Kilometer times were directly related to the profile and type of terrain. Muddy and hillier parts were slower while i ran the flat parts consistently at a 5:20 pace.

The map of the run. The mud section was between kilometers three and five.

It was a great run and exploration of an unknown area at the same time.
