I came across this contest through a tag by @golden06 and I am happy to make an entry as I have also seen and heard some wrong stereotypes I would love to share. I also want to thank @crossculture for this wonderful contest. Here are five stereotypes I know of.

Women are meant for the Kitchen Only

Even though women have been trying to prove this stereotype wrong, there are still some men who would prefer that their wives should not work but to stay at home to do the house chores and take care of the children. Women are humans too, and all humans have a quest they search for especially to make money and make life better. Women should be allowed to pursue her own dreams and have her own career, in that way, she can be the helper God talked about in the Bible.

All Mothers - In law are Bad

I don't know about others but this stereotype is everywhere and I blame it on the movies they produce. Since I was a child, I have always thought that mothers - in law were wicked because of the movies I watched then. I think they portray more of the wicked part and this has made people think that mothers in - laws are wicked. I heard a lady asking her date "Is your mother still alive? I wouldn't want to go through the mother in - laws drama you know". It's funny how she just concluded without even meeting his mother. Well, not all mother in - laws are bad.

Male Child is better than a Female Child

While I was growing up, I witnessed families break up just because the wife couldn't birth a male child for the family. People value male children to female children. Most of male children were opportune to go to school but the female children were made to do the house chores and learn how to be a wife even at a very young age, my grand mum was one of those girls. It's a wrong stereotype and I am glad that the world is leaving such stereotype behind.

True Love Doesn't Exist

The world has so changed that people now believe less in finding true love especially in my country, Nigeria. People date for fun and the pleasure it gives, not even wishing to find true love as they feel they will be chasing the air. Well, I will say "True love may not exist but you can build a true love and be happy" You just have to chose to love and be loved.

What A Man Can Do, A Woman Can Do Better

This saying has become so popular and normal that almost everybody says it. Well, I don't totally agree with this stereotype as I feel that men and women have their own way of doing things better in their own different ways. Men can't carry a baby for nine months just as women also can't impregnate themselves to have babies. I believe a man can do better at what he does and a woman can do better at what she does. There shouldn't be such saying at all.

I could go on and on about so many stereotypes going on around us but I will stop at five and I leave it open for more of them at the comment section. This is my entry for the contest organized by @starstrings01 and I will love to invite @princessbusayo to participate in it also, you can click Here for more details about the contest.

Thanks for reading, stay tuned for more of my blogs

These are just wrong stereotypes which aren't true. All these mentioned are meant for both sexes and they need to understand that. Thanks for the mention and I am just writing mine now. I almost forgot if not that you reminded me through the tag. Thank you.

Excellent examples of stereotypes, I think mothers-in-law and stepmothers have carried a negative stigma in all cultures for a long time and this makes bonding more difficult. Fortunately as you say, we are overcoming those labels every day, but we still have a long way to go.

Of all the stereotypes you explained here, the one that annoys me more is the one about women ending up in kitchen. It's just wrong.

I'm glad some of the world best chefs are men. This goes to show that labeling people and fitting them into a box because of their gender or culture or lifestyle is not right.

I hope we get more enlightened and evolve beyond it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. 🙂

Excellent post. Definitely, stereotypes only limit people from exploring and exploiting their true potential.

wow, this is a really interesting entry... I love the way you presented you view on various samples.. what catches my attention most was your last study case of "What a Man can do, A Woman can do Better". Your words over that matter are really true as everybody are better at their parts and at things dey can do at an individual. Great post. I enjoyed it.
