Noise.cash Says 96% of The Posts Are Trash What's Your Thoughts

In today's video I talk about how noise.cash is changing their free tips policy and what I think about the statement they made about it.

Untitled design (42).jpg

I talk about my opinion of their statement and the main thing that bothered me about what they said. I am not at all against them putting limits or implementing some rules of what they expect for the content to be eligible for free tips. It is after all their site and they are paying for the free tips so they should be able to dictate how they are used. Below is their first statement from yesterday morning that started this all off.

"Three months ago we have launched noise.cash. It was obvious even at that point that there will be some amount of spam/low quality posts. But wow, have people exceeded our expectations. According to our internal rating, 96% of posts we can classify as "spammy" / "low quality". We were kind of hoping it would be like 20%.. I mean how hard should it be to write something original about your life / your thoughts?

Wow! 96% are trashy posts produced by "bio-robots" (people "working" hard moving their fingers between Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, posting stuff from the Internet, random unrelated responses, etc...), some actual robots too.

It's unacceptable.

With that, let me announce that we will soon stop giving FreeTips to "low quality" content authors.

What do we define as "low quality"?

  • All kinds of giveaways (if like to give away money, sure, but give your own)
  • Subscription/tip exchanges
  • Replies like "done", "wow", "nice", "great", "thank you for the information"
  • Image posts with a smiley,
  • Image posts with a short phrase "London" or "Tree" (or slightly longer "A woman standing near a tree")
  • Quotes
  • Anything that has been copied from the Internet,
  • "Good evening", "hello" posts and replies,
  • "Time for a dinner", "here is my dinner", "I just ate dinner", "did you eat your dinner?", "what did you eat for dinner?"
  • "My click" (random photo that you took with a phone without anything interesting about it, like a story or something)
  • "Thank you XX for tipping me"
    ... and more ...

Generally, ANYTHING that doesn't require brain effort to be created is "low quality" (or "low effort").

You will soon see "Eligible", "Eligible (not reviewed yet)", "Eligible (low quality, at risk)", "Not eligible" or "Not reviewed yet" in your FreeTips dropdown.

"Not reviewed yet" means that your account is new and we haven't yet decided whether to sponsor you with FreeTips or not. (This is done to prevent people abandoning old accounts and creating tons of new accounts - all new accounts will now go through the process of review)

"Eligible" means that we have reviewed your content and find it satisfactory, good or excellent - you will get FreeTips from us.

"Eligible (not reviewed yet)" is a special status for older accounts that have been receiving FreeTips, but we haven't reviewed them yet. It will change to another status once we review your account.

"Eligible (low quality, at risk)" means that you will receive FreeTips, but only until we find someone who creates better content.

"Not eligible" means what it means - we have reviewed your account, we don't want to sponsor your content.

You will also see a date of last review. We review accounts constantly and the fact that you are "Not eligible" today might change if you start creating better content.

There is one more thing that we will probably stop sponsoring in the future - that is promotion of competing sites (Leo, Hive, Peakd, Steem, etc...) and competing cryptocurrencies (i.e. anything except for Bitcoin Cash). Why? Well, our goal is Bitcoin Cash adoption and that's what we want to sponsor. We don't want to sponsor promotion of competing sites that promote their own cryptos or other cryptos. You are still free to talk about them, of course, we just don't see why we should sponsor it with FreeTips.

Are "giveaways" now restricted? No, you can do them. Just do it with your own money :)

Ok, so, what makes content "good"?

Good content is something original, something that you thought of, something that makes people think, something you won't find on the Internet. Real interactions with people, where you add something to the conversation, not just "Good day" or "Thanks!"

It doesn't have to be scientific breakthroughs. Tell us about your life, what's going on? I used to love reading people stories about how they work in on farms, how their cities look, how their life goes on. That's interesting too. As opposed to reading that "Honesty is the best policy" for a millionth time."

In the video I explain my thoughts on this, feel free to leave your thoughts on this in the comments below I would like to know your opinion and see what everyone else thinks about this.

In my personal opinion, a cryptocurrency platform attracts what it deserves.

So if the platform is 96% crap, then...well... guess what you'll get? ;)

I cannot argue with that at all, they should have set the guidelines they wanted a while ago instead of calling everyone out. When you give everyone free tips just to use the site you are going to get a lot of garbage from all the penny clickers out there.

It's not easy to make a good model though. On my end of the spectrum I used Coil.com, which had a Booster program for selected creators.

But that also had issues, as it created division in the community and a lot of people felt left out.

Leofinance/Peakd have a somewhat better model with the upvotes, but it is still rather complicated for new users, and frankly the quality is still quite variable too.

Perhaps we need to move to a system where aggregators select strong pieces and create their own news outlets inside platforms like Leofinance and others? I suppose the reblogging feature could help facilitate it, but perhaps that needs to be made a bit more fancy, such that you could actually compose daily magazines of blog posts?

You're going to get good high quality and low quality content on any platform that is just the nature of the beast. Maybe when project blank comes out they will show them all how its done.

Our community went through similar experiences in the early days days.

Noise.Cash is 5 years behind us. Still I love competition and innovation because crypto is zero sum positive sum game

I think if they didn't view it as competition and just worked on getting rid of some of the problems they have they would be so much better off. Hive is not really competition for BCH if they would open their eyes they would see how it can help them more then hurt them.

They can't deny that HIVE has the first mover advantage when it comes to decentralised media protocol.

When Steem was launched there wasn't any other decentralised media platforms, Dan Larimer leaving to create EOS to build Steemit 2.0 massively impacted the growth of Steem, Then Ned Scott's failure to launch SMT further damaged the growth.

Thank god for SteemHostileTakeover & Justin, HIVE is gonna rise like Phoenix

I am pro Hive all the way, I think it is the best blockchain and will grow into an even better blockchain then anything else out there. But it would be nice to see sites like noise work with Hive instead of thinking they need to compete, the race they are in is only with themselves Hive doesn't even know the race is on. lol

Well said Mike, and yeah they can do what they want with their free tips, it's their money, but they really should make a working alternative first, tipping from a third party app works in the sense that the money reaches the wallet of the reciever, but it does not show as tipped on their site which basically makes free tips the only tips worth sending right now.

As to 96% spam, I don't have the stats on that, and maybe we see more of the good quality content in the Hive bubble there, plus they might include spammy comments too, it does sound a bit harsh though.

Let's see what happens and I wish you an awesome weekend.

One of the funniest things to me about this whole thing is if you go to the account noise.cash he is posting the same way that he is calling a lot of post trash, just not about other crypto's. Also when you give out free money you have to expect people are going to take advantage of the situation so it might be a good idea to put some guidelines of what you expect in the site rules.

I hope they are able to come to a happy medium that doesn't discriminate against other crypto, I think they are only in competition with themselves. Noise and hive could feed off of each other and make each other stronger with the right outlook but they seem to want to win a race that only they are in. Thanks for you comment and enjoy the rest of your weekend Erik.

If they wanted they could even make a tribe on Hive-engine where you get rewarded in BCH for posting.

I know that people don't use the chambers properly so I moved from the hive to the hiveblog chamber.if you're preferring to a bunch of photos that they never took not sharing about themselves just preaching which I can't stand can't get away from that crap okay that's just my opinion I don't think it's fair because it's not about them it's about something else that's really not about them anyway I got to quit talking

Most of the real people on there seemed to be from hive. I agree bch and hive complement each other more than anything.

I kinda liked it turning into a social sharing type of website. It was actually pretty fun. But as far as a twitter on hive next.d.buzz is actually really good

Dbuzz is great and Leo is getting close to launching project blank, with these two programs on Hive I think Noise could have problems. To me the smart thing would be for Noise to embrace Hive and leverage it to help build their site instead of competing with it.
