Central bank of Jamaica releases logo winner for its digital currency with Twitter and the design world in disgust!
The central bank of Jamaica has released its logo winner for the design of its CBDC with many in the Jamaican design industry in disgust. The logo shows an image of the national fruit of Jamaica, Ackee along with the words “JAM-Dex” ( which will be the name). It stands for Jamaican Digital Exchange. I know many in the crypto space will pick up what is wrong with that instantly, if not, go do some homework.
The slogan, “No cash, no problem” is also a part of the logo.
Now, I can see why they chose it from a cultural perspective, as it represents the culture and the slogan of Jamaica has also been (unofficially) , “Jamaica no problem”. But wow, what a basic design. Here is the announcement on Twitter by the bank of Jamaica.

I really have to wonder what they were thinking! The should have just hired a designer. If I knew about the content I would have entered.
I think the logo is over stressed. These days, logos are being done with simple designs.
Anyway, they have their reasons why they chose this particular logo.
Knowing Jamaica it was probably voted by people who don't know anything about design or was done by a friend of the team.
But yeah they have their reason.

I'm no designer, but I too find it simple and boring 🙈. The concept with ackee is a good concept though.
The "contest" or judging was done "centralized" I suppose and voting on a blockchain would've broadened the odds. I wonder what the other entries look like.
