Emancipate Yourself from Mental Slavery 🔗 Redemption Song ⛓ #APART - A Picture & A Reggae Tune

We all have friends and family we love, or that one friend, a master, a leader, someone who in your eyes is the epitome of wholesome and can do no harm. We put these role-models on a pedestal and are chained to the thought that they have our best interest at heart. But this is not always the case.

An area where this phenomenon is especially noticeable is the world of politics. Religion also dances on that thin line more often than not. Because we admire and have faith in our respectable communities, groups or role-model, the thought of criticism never even crosses our mind. This inevitably results in severe lack of the ability to be objective.

This is a picture from 2015 when the protests against the past government officials their corrupt actions just started. The photo was taken by a local photographer. Even though it started with a handful of people at that time, I decided to join one of those early days right after coming from the university.

I'm the guy in the red shirt by the way. The sign I am holding up roughly translates to "Where is the money?". When the protests got a bit bigger to about a 100 plus, I didn't join that much anymore. But that was because I was disappointed in the people. For the amount of abuse the government was making us endure, there had to be at least thousands on the street instead of just hundreds. I wasn't necessarily having a hard time financially, so I decided to not waste my time coming up for the rights and hardships of people, while they themselves didn't care.

As the undeniably perfect tune to accompany this message I chose "Redemption Song" by the legend himself, the father of Reggae, Robert Nesta Marley, or as we all lovingly know him: Bob Marley. This song is all about freeing ourselves from the chains of mental captivity that the system we live in has put on us. That at some point in our lives, we can't just stand aside and look, and have to stand up for ourselves.

Emancipate yourself from mental slavery
None but our self can free our minds

As long as we do not understands these words of wisdom, the world we'll keep getting destroyed by those in power. So change your mentality, stop accepting just about anything and start questioning everything. Once we all have achieved this state of critical thinking, the universe will be a better place to live in.

Won't you help to sing.. These songs of freedom?

#APART is an initiative by the Irie down-to-earth people at the ReggaeJAHM Community where you share a picture alongside a Reggae tune the picture reminds you of.

You know I’ve never did any kind of protest and that sounds bad but the same thoughts ran through my mind. “Why should I protest when the people it affects the most wont be out there.” But when you think about it, they probably can’t afford to be out there or “protest” in other ways.

✊🏿 BLM movement came to Tokyo as there is a decent black American population, and it did cross my mind to go, but then I was like, what will really change? And how is real change made?

I struggled with those same thoughts for a long time. It may be true for some, but in Suriname the truth was that most of the same people living in poverty were the ones who voted for and supported the government at that time. They were and some are still brainwashed into thinking that the country was hit by an international economical crisis and that that's the reason why we have sudden inflation. Literal mental slavery.

So now I "protest" the system differently by educating people and spreading what I know as much as I can to those with at least a partially open mind.

Real change is made when people start understanding what they are fighting for instead of just hopping a bandwagon. A lot of people here yelling BLM because they see it happening in the USA, while still doing racist/prejudice things.

Totally agree, many take this thing for a fashion trend.

Exactly , you took the type right out of my fingers. 😂 a lot of them are marching for “Black American Lives matter”. Many still won’t support black business, will stil look down on African and Caribbean nationals.

But, it’s good to see the little unity, that’s the main positive. Big up to the real ones protesting for change though, it’s sad to see the opportunist taking advantage.

The positive side of everything is that the message is getting across to those who have a certain privilege or are unknowingly part of the problem and also to those in power who can do something about it.
The level of awareness regarding racial bias is much higher now.

Thanks.

Word of advice: Stop writing "good post" and "good photo/video" on everyone their posts. Sooner or later someone might put you on a blacklist for such spam-like low effort comments and you're gonna have a bad time.

Have a good Sunday. 🍻

@JustinParke here on behalf of the ReggaeJAHM Community.

You're a very brave man to do this, shame it didn't pick up more popular support.

Thanks @justinparke. The highest point was one big protest with about 2000+ people, which I also attended, but after that the masses starting thinning rapidly. Seemed more like a one time show than an ongoing fight for their rights.
