Beer Review: Firefly Lager by Volkovskaya Brewery

This week we decided to have a pizza night with friends, and of course, we didn't do without some delicious beer. It was a fun "serial" selection. My wife, being a big fan of "Supernatural", got herself a three bottles of Bud (the Winchester brothers' favorite beer), while I decided to continue my acquaintance with the products of Volkov Brewery and took three bottles of their lager Firefly (Svetyachok), whose name resonates with my favorite fantasy series with Nathan Fillion.

While my wife was thinly slicing sausage, I was grating cheese and my friends were chopping onions, and it went very well with a beer. Especially the lager, which came out at $2 USD for 3 bottles, was damn good.

It's worth saying right away that for lager it is very well hopped, and American hops - "Cascade" and "Pecco" create an excellent floral and fruity aroma with pronounced citrus tones. It starts with lime and the aftertaste is dominated by grapefruit with a characteristic bitterness.

I've already said that Volkov brewers like to "fine-tune the recipe" and with Firefly it's immediately obvious. When this beer first appeared on the shelves of our stores it was unfiltered lager and was very cloudy, but with the finalization of the recipe it became much more transparent and looks really nice.

Well, since I'm a seasoned chilihead (hot pepper fan), I can't help but say that as an addition to the pizza, in addition to the delicious beer, we decided to sample a new sauce from Chantico Craftsmen in which they mixed Ghost Pepper (Bhut Jolokia, over 1,000,000 SHU) and Coconut! It went great with beer and the pizza was eaten very quickly, dedicating the rest of the evening to intimate conversations and discussing plans for the summer.

If everything goes as we plan - in August we'll go to Crimea, where there are a lot of local beers, about which I'll tell here :)

I love the bottle! I can't read it at all haha, but I really like the design. Cheers!
