Beer reviews: Wolpertinger Dunkles

It's Saturday again, which means it's time for another post in the #BeerSaturday Challenge! And this week I had a chance to try a very tasty German beer, Wolpertinger Dunkles.

I'm not going to lie - first of all I was hooked on the design and the strange animal, which looked like a mixture of rabbit, deer and duck. In fact, this is how it is and the name of the beer came from the name of a mythical creature that supposedly lived in the forests of Austria and Bavaria.

There was a choice in the store - light wheat or dark wheat and, of course, I chose dark. I love this kind of beer and cannot deny myself the pleasure of trying new brands of my favorite drink.

By the way, here's a little history - Dunkel, this is the first kind of beer brewed in Germany and the first barrel of this drink is registered in Bavaria, and it was brewed at the very first Oktoberfest which was arranged as a wedding feast for royalty.

A huge table was laid, and the main guest was the beer - the dunkel. It was brewed at the local brewery, which at that time belonged to the family that ruled the Bavarian land. It is noteworthy that dunkel is most similar to porter in the way it is brewed, but in the taste it is a real lager, the main feature of which is a vanilla and nutty aftertaste.

Wolpertinger was very much to my liking. It is quite light for a dark beer. Lots of foam, with a very nice reddish hue that slowly settles in. The flavor has a lot of berries, malt and a little coffee and bitterness in the background. Drinks very easily and while preparing to another poker tournament with friends (such is our tradition) drank 3 cans, and 3 more during the game. Despite the strength of 5.4% intoxication was not heavy, and the next morning - no headache.

Definitely will take it in the future and despite the fact that this "rabbit" is more expensive than beer, which I usually take exactly twice - it is worth it and fully justified.
