Maltese Brewing Company has brewed the world's spiciest beer

As a big fan of hot peppers, I can't get past this curious news. Maltese Brewing Company, an American brewery founded in Fredericksburg, Virginia, by local firefighters, has set out to enter the Guinness Book of World Records with the world's spiciest beer.

The representatives of the company report that the "fierceness" of their Signal One 2.0 beer reaches 400 thousand units on the Scoville scale.

Ray Parrish, co-owner of the Maltese Brewing Company source

The basis of Signal One 2.0 beer is a light pineapple IPA with the world's spiciest Carolina Reaper pepper at the rate of 299 peppers per 29.335 liters (half a keg) of product. It's so spicy that the brewers launched a special challenge among their customers - whoever can drink a $12 bottle of 300 ml in 10 minutes gets a prize T-shirt with a tattoo of the beer on it, as Ray Parrish says, on average, only 20 out of 100 people who try it manage to do it.

Actually, the brewers may have a hard time getting into the Book of World Records. First, alcohol breaks down capsaicin, which will obviously affect the claimed spiciness of 400k SHU, and second, many craft brewers have already experimented with spicy beers and this news may be perceived as a challenge. However, Signal One 2.0 has already gone to the University of Mary Washington and we just have to wait for the results to be announced.

By the way, it would be interesting to know how you feel about such extreme experiments and whether you like spicy beer snacks?

I very rarely drink beer, and I have not tried spicy beers so far.
When I drink a beer, I mostly like to drink a tasty beer, such as cherry and lemon.

I like spicy foods, but will pass on the spicy beer. My latest favorite beer is a Vietnamese coffee porter by a brewery here in Houston, TX called 8th Wonder Rocket Fuel.
