ASTON VILLA VERSUS BURNLEY MATCH REPORT
The match was a very interesting one as both teams prove to be an impressive side. Aston Villa had much of the ball and was the better side of the two sides. The 0-0 scoreline doesn’t tell the full story of the match as the brilliance of nick pope and wastefulness of the Aston Villa players was the difference.
Aston villa created 27 chances and failed to convert one into a goal.
Aston Villa skipper Grealish was visibly frustrated as soon as the final whistle was blown. How could one explain controlling a game with such intensity without a goal to show for their effort?
El Ghazi was the best on the pitch for Aston Villa and his impact was felt in the attacking third. His first-half free-kick would have been a goal in any other match but pope still found a way to push the ball over the goal post. His overall performance was top notch but he was wasteful in front of goal.
He was not the only culprit in this regard, as Watkins, Traore, Grealish was also wasteful. Chances came after chances but it wasn’t converted. Aston villa defense had a quiet outing but some periods existed where Martinez was called to action.
Burnley had their chances too but overall they played poorly. From the defenders to the strikers, they all switched off and the match result was a favorable one. The only shining star of the team was nick pope and he continues to flaunt his impressive goalkeeping skills to the world.
Even Barnes, the Burnley captain had a performance he would wish to forget as soon as possible. He played majorly in defense as Aston villas had more of the ball for longer hours. He was only involved in the game whenever a counter-attacking opportunity arises.
Burnley will be happy with the draw while Aston villa will be gashing their teeth and wondering how the game ended in a draw. This was easily Aston villa's best performance of the season but not being clinical cost them the three points.
