Movie Review: Dating Amber[2020]

This evening I was looking on the web for some old movie collections. Suddenly a movie pops up, guess what it was David Freyne's loveable teenage friendship full of emotions "Dating Ambar". I just went with the flow and started watching it.

This movie is about the true friendship of a boy and a girl who is struggling to prove themselves and trying to get out of their depressed life. The writer/director is done a marvelous job as he highlights the emotions, independence, and, most importantly, simplification, that most people don't have. Dating Ambar is based on such an ambiguous relationship full of melodrama, which reflects Ireland's past and present lifestyle.

Eddie(Fionn O'Shea) is the boy who is always trying to man that he is a man and a faggot. But in his school, all his classmates always tease him as a homo. That's why he wants to join the Irish army; he thinks if he joins the army, all this fuss will be over. His father is a military guy who always hustled him to join the military. That's why Eddie can't think anything but to join the military. But Eddie's mother thinks differently, and he always tries to help him to get rid of this situation.

On the other end, Amber(Lola Petticrew) is an independent girl. Who loves to travel, party all night, and enjoy life. She lost her father long ago. Now she and her mother are living together. She is not like other girls, preferably a raunchy one. She has a dream to go to London and open an anarchist bookshop. For this, she is having a secret business, where she nearly collected 2000 Irish Euro. But her mom doesn't have any clue about it. Her mom always wants her to be a typical sweet girl, but Amber never pays ahead to it.

All of this, these two finally meet together. The cute couple(they look lovely) have their first date, and they decide that they will be in a real-fake relationship. Firstly they are having lots of hassle. As they go, they become more comfortable and reach a more in-depth understanding. And all those who are teasing them start to become jealous about their relationship. In the meantime, they are having a great time together. They began to forget their problems.

Strange things started to happen in their life when they both went for a day out at Dublin and enjoying their time. They went to a nightclub where Eddie hugged a waggish guy who is singing a song at that nightclub. Also, Amber found someone(feminine), but she was pretending that she has a boyfriend.

"This place will kill you."

The final acts disclose everything that these two actually are not in a relationship. But they have a great friendship and respect. They are the two school kids, one is actually gay, and another one is lesbian. But both of them didn't want to accept it. Surely, you will be surprised after watching the unexpected ending of this movie.

I loved the way that Eddie's brother always teases his brother. There are some other characters who have done a fabulous job, especially Kevin(Ian O'Reilly) and the math teacher.
