Craig David's "Born to do it" Album Cover

Music is food that nourishes the body, mind and soul. It takes it's listener's on an exciting journey of discovery. It relieves them of stress and makes them feel at ease. It also serves as a source of inspiration to many people.

I love music and was exposed to a wide genre of music from a young age. My dad had a large collection of foreign and indigenous music and listened to them for pleasure and relaxation. My neighbours who were young adults also enjoyed listening to contemporary music on their stereo system a lot. These people influenced my interest and love for music as I loved the selection of songs on their playlist.

I recall an incident where I was bored and was switching between TV stations in search of programmes that would keep me entertained. I viewed each stations programme briefly to see what was on air and changed to another if it was not interesting to me. I did this for some time until I eventually came across one of Craig David's musical videos titled "Walking Away". I liked his voice and the rhythm of the song thus was compelled to watch the video to the end. The song made a good impression on me and made me keen to know more about Craig David. I was curious about the quality of his other songs and eager to know if they would be appealing like the one I watched on TV recently.

Craig David

I listened to the radio a lot and as a result got to get a lot of information through it. It also served as a medium for me to keep abreast of the latest updates in the music scene. This habit of mine availed me the opportunity to listen to more songs from Craig David and therefore satisfy my curiosity. I got to listen to good songs like Rendervouz, Seven Days and Fill Me In all by Craig David. I loved this songs a lot and always looked forward to it being played on radio or TV. I was hooked!

Nigerian Musical Artiste - Banky W

I liked the tempo and rhythm of Craig David's songs. His voice was sultry and appealing to my ears! I was not surprised when his songs were at the top of musical charts on radio and TV. Some of my friends also considered some of his songs as their favourite songs. His songs were disrupting the airwaves and appealed to a lot of listeners! He was also admired for his style of fashion by many youths. His well groomed beards and head warmer caps were a signature of his style and soon became a fashion trend that was followed during this period. Musicians in Nigeria like Banky W adopted elements of his style in their mode of dressing in the early stages of his musical career.

The new millennium(the year 2000) was upon us and I was excited about it. One of the memorable experiences for me during this period was the yuletide holiday I spent at my uncle's house in Maryland, Lagos. I was greeted with a great surprise! My uncle was also a fan of Craig David and had his album "Born To Do It" in his collection of music. I was so excited when I learnt about it. I played the album incessantly to the extent that it always infuriated my cousins who also spent the holidays there. They were upset about how often I played this album and often asked me if I don't get bored listening to it. I try to pacify them and explain to them that the songs on the album resonate with me. It makes me feel good!

The album "Born To Do It" was released over two decades ago but still appeals to me till this day! It is arguably the most successful body of work by Craig David and one of the best albums I have listened to. It is an album I will gladly recommend to anyone that loves good music.

Thanks for reading,
Have a great day folks.
