Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover

Dele used to work as a customer service agent for a telecommunications franchise outlet several years ago. He learnt a lot from the job and got to deal with several customers whose cases and issues he needed to resolve. He made a commitment to do his best in any case he handled. This act brought about numerous benefits like self-confidence and a sense of trust from customers whose cases were within his purview.

His job required him to interact with a lot of customers. He had a pleasant experience when a seemingly demanding customer walked into their outlet for a SIM card upgrade. This customer was not easy to manage and was getting on his nerves. He was not making it easy for Dele to assist him with his attitude. Dele was getting irritated and was eager to upgrade his SIM card so that he could leave their outlet but thought of Dele changed when he gave his Identity card which was required for his SIM card upgrade.

Dele skimmed through it and discovered that the address on it was an area of the neighbourhood where he grew up as a kid. This information made him feel calmer and as a result Dele became polite to him! Dele asked him if he resided in the address stated on his Identity card. He responded by telling him he grew up and resided there in the past but presently lives somewhere else. The guy was curious about why Dele asked him this question and was surprised when he told him he also resided there before. He was happy when he heard this and became friendly towards Dele! This revelation sparked an interesting conversation between the both of them and Dele enjoyed every bit of it.

The conversation led them to disclose more personal information about each other. He reintroduced himself to Dele by telling him his name (Dele already knew this from his Identity card), profession and state of origin. Dele also did likewise. As their conversation progressed, Dele was surprised to learn that he is an alumni of his secondary school and graduated twenty two years earlier than him. He was also surprised to know that Dele himself was also an alumni of their alma mater. He was happy about this news! He told dele about how the school was run during his time and the pride students felt being a part of the school. He also shared his experiences while he was in school. Dele listened to his story as he worked on upgrading his SIM card. His case no longer became boring, it had become interesting! Dele was amazed by the incidents he told him that occurred in the school in the past. Dele was captivated by his stories!

Dele was also impressed by his enthusiasm and support for the establishment of relevant projects that should be embarked on in their alma mater. Dele got to learn that he is a benefactor of the ICT Department of their alma mater. Dele was thrilled as he heard him speak passionately about their school and the contributions he has made to make it a conducive place for learning and the acquisition of knowledge. Anyways he was an advocate of intellectual development, skill acquisition and empowerment. These tools are necessary to lead a successful life. This earned him Dele respect!

They also talked about other subjects and really enjoyed each other's company. Dele eventually had a great time with him and got his business card after he concluded his SIM card upgrade. His visit turned out to be the highlight of Dele's day! It made Dele glad as he did not lose his composure when they were not getting along upon his arrival earlier. This encounter made Dele realise the importance of tolerance. Like the old saying goes "don't judge a book by its cover"

Thanks for reading,
Have a pleasant day folks.

It is a very old and wise saying, after all, who are we to judge?

Nice post dear, I learnt the importance of tolerance from it.
If only we just remain calm at every situation, it would not result to an escalation of it.
