Creepy Truth

Waking up from such a scary dream was a dream come true.
It felt I was almost giving up and losing my breath.
I tried seeing who or what was pulling me from behind but I couldn't because it was extremely dark.
I screamed all I could while trying to push myself towards the small aperture where the ray of sunlight was coming from.

It was of no use but I kept struggling all the same and when the force was more than my strength could carry, I screamed so loud as if my life depended on it.
And this is how I woke up from the nightmare.
When I realized it was but a terrible nightmare, I was so glad even though the fear was still gripping me.
I could have done anything to wake up from the dream long before when I did.
Still, I was thankful to have woken up before something worst than that happened.

Panting like an animal that just escaped its predator (I mean wasn't that my predator?) I walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water.
Hours rolled out but my eyes still couldn't find sleep. My mind was playing its part by not letting me fall asleep all over again. I was scared for my life. I knew it was a terrible nightmare but what did I do? What on earth did I do to have such a dream? As far as I know myself, I had no trouble with anyone so why would they come after me in my dreams?
I kept pondering on this incident until the day broke.

My friend Veronica called the next morning to tell me she was coming back home and that she wanted to move in with me in the meantime. I couldn't say No because she was my friend and even when I wasn't comfortable, accommodating her, I still let her stay since she said it was only for a while and soon she would pack out or go back to where she was coming from.

Veronica arrived at my house at exactly 6 pm. She had a long and tiring journey so she needed a warm bath and a good meal. To welcome her, I fixed a very nice meal and asked her to go wash up so we could both eat together.
She did just that and in no time we were both seated and enjoying our dinner.
I asked her all about her life over where she stayed, it was a fun moment listening to my friend talk and explain her life over there.

She also told me why she was back and her purpose for coming back. I believed her since she was a friend and I never thought about anything other than what she told me.

Few weeks after Veronica's return, the whole house became a mess. She doesn't clean, she doesn't wash and she neither sweeps the house nor does any other house chores. I condole her for the first few days but after weeks had passed, I couldn't take it anymore. I know it was my house and I wasn't expecting her to do the cleanups but for once she should have considered it that she wasn't living alone or in her own house but with somebody.
I called her one day to talk to her about the issue, but Veronica paid deaf ears to me and still went on with her normal life.
I was furious and I was affected by her actions and conducts.
She messes the whole house up and yet she couldn't even volunteer to also tidy and keep it clean.

It even got to the point that she started bringing men to the house. I came back one afternoon to pick up some documents for work which I forgot earlier in the morning.
I walked into Veronica and a guy on my bed. I was shocked yet I said nothing about it. I mean this isn't the Veronica I used to know. What happened? What changed?.
I promised I was going to ask her about it when I returned from work, so instead of drawing their attention to my presence, I left quietly.
Through my stay at work, I was disturbed and very worried, I couldn't wait to get back home and ask Veronica about what I witnessed earlier.
Thankfully when I got home that night, she was still up. So I told her I wanted to have a discussion with her, she asked what happened if all was well, and I told her that she had nothing to worry about.

When I was done freshening up that evening, I had my dinner and then called out Veronica to talk with her.
She sat down and I asked her a very simple question; "What had changed about you while you were away?"
She looked at me and wondered why I asked her such a question. She said she had told me everything about her life when she first returned so why was I asking her what I was asking her again.

I saw you earlier Veronica, I said to her. She was dumbfounded but she pretended not to know what I was saying so she asked; you saw me where?
In this house Veronica, with your boyfriend or whatsoever he is to you.
Are you spying on me? she flared and got up on her feet.
Spying on you? are you seriously asking me that? Excuse me? Spy on you in my own house? What for? Are you even listening to yourself? I said all these to Veronica.

She hissed and said I should excuse her. But before she left, I grabbed her wrist and warned her that I was going to take everything from her but I just couldn't sit tight and shut my mouth watching her turn my house into something else.
I didn't care any less what has become of her life but she wasn't going to use my home for whatever affairs she had with men and I told her if that was how she wanted to live her life then she should take it outside my home because I wasn't gonna tolerate it the next time.
She was already getting on my nerves as it was, so I didn't want more and couldn't take more than I have taken already.

Veronica dared me and tried it the second time, then the third time and she wasn't even hiding to do this again. She walks in anytime she wants to and she always brings in a guy with her and before you know it, they have ended up in the bedroom.
I just couldn't watch this anymore so one day I decided to throw her out of my house, though I felt heartless for wanting to do that but I really didn't have a better option at that time.
Little did I know that Veronica, the friend I thought I had planned to take my own life without my knowledge.
The same day I made plans to throw her out of my house was the same day she plotted against me for me to get killed.

I left the house early that day to work but before then, I went to the police station to get their help in case it led to something else.
I told them when I will be returning home and when I wanted Veronica out of my house. The policemen said they will be there at exactly the time I gave them.
I excused myself from work early that faithful day and headed back home to carry out the plans I had for Veronica.
On reaching the house, the police weren't found so I put a call to their station to know what is keeping them. Immediately the police officer picked my call, I felt a strong hand grab me from behind and folded my mouth, I tried screaming but I couldn't.

Just while I was struggling and trying to free myself, it dawned on me and I remember the terrible nightmare I had a night before Veronica's return.
Everything came playing back in my mind, the fear, the struggling, and every other thing I felt in the dream.
Thankfully before the bad guys could do anything to me, the policemen had already arrived and this is how I was saved from my calamity.
How they did it or stopped the bad guys is what I still cannot explain but however it was, I was really thankful to God for my life.
I finally got Veronica out of my house and told her that I was ashamed to call her a friend.

The End!

Still your baby girl ;)
