Can (ARVs) Antiretrovirals get you high?

(Antiretroviral) noun an agent effective against retroviruses definition of (retrovirus): any of a family (Retroviridae) of single-stranded RNA viruses that produce reverse transcriptase by means of which DNA is produced using their RNA as a template and incorporated into the genome of infected cells, that are often tumorigenic, and that include the lentiviruses (such as the HIVs) and the causative agent of Rous sarcoma. Unfortunately giving all the sufficient definitions involved, would mean we are here all day so you may have to google some of that. Whoonga is a drug cocktail in South Africa known by several different names such as IOP, Whoonga, nyaope, or wonga. Made of several different combinations including, cough syrup, rat poison, ECT as well as the primary ingredient present in most forms Antiretroviral intended for the treatment of HIV Aids efavirenz(EFV).

though this is a 33 min documentary I encourage anyone interested to watch it skip to 15:52 in to see the lengths people are going to to get high this way. around 20:00 is mice testing

How its used

While typically used as a antiretroviral therapy (ART). ART involves taking a combination of HIV medicines (called an HIV treatment regimen) every day specifically efavirenz(EFV).

Obviously as a pill efavirenz(EFV) the chemical in the image above👆is taken orally, when abused this is rarely the case. Most instances of Whoonga are smoked it can be laced in cannabis or smoked like crack with a steal wool pipe setup utilizing mostly chemicals to achieve a similar consistency as crack. Animal testing has indicated an addictive reaction to efavirenz choosing this over water until death this to me speaks volumes, mice cant lie. Originally regarded as a myth science has started to show the possibility that this assertion is wrong. Often we believe we know everything to find we in fact know nothing, the list is virtually endless of mistakes like this in scientific research.
"Science and technology revolutionize our lives, but memory, tradition and myth frame our response."
Arthur M. Schlesinger

Enhance the effect of other drugs

Antiretroviral which has psychoactive side effects Dr. David Grelotti has noted that efavirenz has a quote "well-known tendency to cause especially vivid and colorful dreams and other central nervous system effects. Hypothetically, that could enhance the effects of cannabis, methamphetamine, heroin and other illicit drugs." However there is some evidence to suggest it may even be effective by itself giving some a dissociative effect though it is mild. Laboratory studies suggest that dissociative drugs, including PCP, ketamine, and DXM, cause their effects by disrupting the actions of the brain chemical glutamate at certain types of receptor called N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. The dissociative classification is by far one of the hardest to understand just look at what PCP can do to its users.

All I know is that we know nothing

This area of research is taboo no one wants to get their hands dirty looking into the science of Psychopharmacology- the scientific study of the effects drugs have on mood, sensation, thinking, and behavior. Those brave few that do research this area such as Hamilton Morris from Hamilton's pharmacopeia the video from the beginning of this post. Are often restricted by government oversight although he gets away with a lot he still struggles with the laws in some regard.

Ill leave you with one final quote from one of my favorite high ons Albert Einstein

Though not about cannabis

Many of my recent posts are not about cannabis they are about getting high in one way or another. I'm micro dosing marijuana the whole time however weedcash seems to be an appropriate setting for these topics. As cannabis growers and users we know what prohibition has done to research in to these areas. There are clandestine growers that know far more than your average botanist, It is the merging of theses to schools of thought that has led to such rapid advancement in cannabis. I'm not saying we need to be doing more drugs we just need to be less afraid to ask questions in this area of scientific research. But real it in if you find yourself acting like this

Yeah this is an appropriate place for this topic. And as soon as I saw the title of this post on my notification service, Hamilton first popped into my mind! Love his show. Interesting stuff.
