Don't Ignore Blockchain Gaming .:. Hump Day Easy Talk

(Edited)

I had some interesting talks during my vacation, and I will have in the next couple of weeks... Mostly with people who aren't in the crypto world, know a little about it, or don't know anything at all... It's kind of getting the "pulse" of the mainstream audience about crypto and getting their understanding about it... But sometimes, even if we are in the crypto sphere and understand how it works, we are "short-sighted" and don't see the big picture...

I would say that I was like that in my short-view about blockchain gaming when some of the NFT games came out... I did jump on Splinterlands, dCity, Rising Star, but somehow I have always get into them with a delay... It's important to have your ear on the ground and listen carefully about the new stuff in the crypto world... Blockchain gaming is one of the things that has huge potential... Currently, in my opinion, we can see only a portion of that potential, maybe even less than 1 from 100%... Yes, Splinterlands is killing it, but I have a feeling that we will have a lot more quality games in the future entering the crypto and blockchain world...

Let's talk about it...

Thank you for your valuable time,

~ph~

Personally I feel we are just at the start of it. Splinterlands was one of the first I believe it now 3-4 years old? But they continue to build and evolve it and understand when new things come out on other games that people really enjoy and how to smartly put that into their game. This is one of the things that's made splinterlands a hit for a long time now.

Primarily most crypto gaming is very basic. Card collecting and some pvp battling with a few clicks of the mouse. It wont be long though till we see MMO games like "new world" that offer up real assets you craft in the game or resources collect all be NFTs. I believe we still start seeing that towards early/mid next year as there's a number of games in the works that are related to this. Gala games might be one of the first.

Tbh, I was thinking that we will see this sooner, but De-Fi took all attention last year, so blockchain gaming had to wait... Anyways, gaming is here to stay, and it's just a question of when...

Splinterlands is going big because it is around long enough to become the king of the hill for their genre. The genre got the breakthrough, so did SL. The success story happened.

Now, evolving is necessary but going in the direction where everyone else is looking is a hedge not another strike attempt. They won't be the king of the hill if the land thing is supposed to be what competition started to build years ago.

There is a lot of genres but everyone around here insists on copying stuff that was winning the battles of yesterday. Piggericks or Rabona did not fail because of choosing wrong hill to be a king of. They just screwed up economies to the point where they starved left unharrassed on a fertile land.

OTOH, many people are so long-sighted that they cannot see what happens right now.

Being an early adopter is great (unless the thing happens to be a failure - most of them do). It is the early blockchain gaming experince that was highly ponzified that reconfirms the attitude. If everyone is in for the quick buck and noone is in fur the fun of it, the life cycle of the game is easy to predict. S-shaped growth then fall off a cliff. The only unpredictable thing is the magnitude. You just never know if the hill is gonna grow 100 times or start plateauing in six hours.

For some reason, the blockchain games have started to add a gameplay layer. They can be fun to play. Sometimes they can be challenging enough to to actually not reward everyone. There might be losers having fun. I think 80-99% of the players joining now are not going to see a profit because if you buy in the news you are most likely going to be selling the dip later. Questioning their decision to join the game would be like questioning the guy who drinks a beer or two in the bar. He could have joined the operation early and be the guy who bought the keg and is reselling at a profit - but who cares.

Decent games have cycles. Of course dCity is going down as the herd cashes out to jump where the glamour is atm. The truth is dCity is an investment based game. Not all blockchain games let you put non-trivial money in. It is not just a race for early seat - you can come now with your money and sail the sea of the game economy smarter than others. With 100k Hive in the reward pool, it is not something that can disappear overnight. If SIM tries to crash, the APR of SIM-holding rewards skyrockets and smart money starts running in to get advantage.

I am really curious to see if Splinterlands become the hub for the players to change the chains they game on. If it does, I have no doubts Hive will be among the winners with feeless transactions and a couple of games that are way beyond start-up stage.

I agree with you and I was talking about games being ponzies, which is still the case in the majority of blockchain games...

For some reason, the blockchain games have started to add a gameplay layer.

Imagine, what will happen when we look at things in another way around? When some mainstream games decide to add blockchain functionalities to their games... That will be the real deal :)

When you are an indie developer, blockchain offers your great opportunities like ease of transacting or access to a community of early players. The big outlets do not need to share the profits in order to get access to things that are already available to them.

The newspapers did not move online because internet was cool, they kept selling the printouts to the last day possible until the alternative operations ate their profits.

This is definitely something new to me. I have never been into any games whatsoever. But I keep hearing about this Splinterlands and other games. In this video, you have definitely convinced me to have a look at this. A little nervous about the unknown...but hey, I suppose the longer I wait, the more I will fall behind...lol.

Thank you for this information, Zoltan. Maybe I needed this wake-up call!

You are welcome! Just don't do some crazy FOMO things... At the moment, most of the prices connected to ANY Splinterlands assets are overvalued... In my opinion... Maybe others have different opinions, but for me, it's a bit unreal to earn $10-$15 daily for just winning battles (On my level/rankings)...

Thank you, Zoltan.

With my level of knowledge about Splinterlands,

  • I would definitely not rush into anything right now, and
  • I would rather take your word with regards to the value of Splinterlands assets at the moment

In the meantime...enjoy your profits!

When I have started playing I did because I was incentivized by potential earnings... But, I couldn't imagine that something like this what's happening now is possible...

Blockchain gaming is going big now, and Splinterlands is one of the best examples leading all this, and it is very likely that this trend will continue for a long time, in the case of SL and knowing that this SPS airdrop will continue for a long time we could even look at SL being the first Billion Dollar blockchain game, all that is needed for that to happen is that it keeps growing consistently for an extended period of time, thanks for sharing your view Zoltan and stay awesome.

Thanks for picking my content as valuable!

Blockchain gaming is going big now

Indeed... But, it didn't happen overnight... Splinterlands is created 3 years ago, and we will need a lot more time to see even more thrilling results...
The future of blockchain gaming looks bright!
