RE: Why is renewable energy not as clean and green as we think it is?

I must have written 20 articles in HIVE about energy and environmental impacts. I never cease to be amazed about the lack of information on the negative effects of renewable energy. Solar waste? The media doesn't talk about it.

Time and time again, society forgets that technology isn't developed in a vacuum. We only read about the "green" of technology while it's being used. Yes, solar energy is green while it's working. However, not one process involving the manufacture or disposal of renewable technologies is green.

I feel that a better solution to climate change would be to grade green technologies across their product lifecycle. The product with the lowest pollutive process should be the one that's promoted. Anytime we jump on the best-looking fad, we run into a new disposal problem.

Thanks for the article. It was refreshing. Upvoted and promoted.

The media often talks about renewable energy as if it is the holy grail that will solve the energy crisis and climate change. They always forgot to see the other side of the coin. I agree that there is really a lack of information about the waste associated to renewable technologies.

Time and time again, society forgets that technology isn't developed in a vacuum.

I couldn't agree more to this statement. All technology has drawbacks and often people misunderstood "green" technology that it is 100% clean. Solar, wind and other renewables are clean source of energy. but at the end of its life cycle, it has waste that we need to address. It what media often forgot to highlight.
