βŒ› Taking Time To Be A Dad πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘§ & Monkey B's Banana Kick

For over a week now I haven't been posting on Hive as much as normal, but I've been using this time to simply be a "Dad" to some very bored kids.

βŒ› TIME WELL SPENT ⚽

11.JPG

Β  Β  Β There have been 5 consecutive full-weekend lockdowns here in Suriname, and it concluded with a surprise 36-hour lockdown during Eid, I assume in an attempt to prevent any feasts from getting too big and social.

IMG_2766.JPG

Β  Β  Β Since the pandemic and lockdowns here in Suriname began, I haven't been nearly as physically active as I'd like to be, with cycling being the only thing that I really do on a regular basis. I try and make the short trips to the corner store an anaerobic exercise by pedaling as fast as I can too and fro.

Β  Β  Β Usually twice a week I get some aerobic exercise when I take Pov on long trips into town, sometimes reaching 20km+ in a day. Those are intense trips toting a full-sized human on the back rack in the tropics at noon without shade.

Β  Β  Β Monkey-B has recently taken a liking to football, so we've been working on various drills and skillsets when the weather permits. She's a quick learner and already possesses some excellent ball control skills.

Β  Β  Β I miss playing football very much, so it's nice to pass this passion on to my youngest daughter. She always asks for new skills when we're kicking the ball around, and recently we've been focusing on the banana kick as an alternative to the beloved toeball.

IMG_2769.JPG

Β  Β  Β Learning foot-eye and body coordination through football is one of the fastest and easiest ways to do so. With good physical awareness comes the knowledge of how to fall gracefully and without getting hurt.

IMG_2771.JPG

Β  Β  Β When you don't have insurance, learning how to fall is a really important life skill, and although I have no pics, Monkey-B has a pretty good tuck and roll.

IMG_2772.JPG

Β  Β  Β Here she is in the above photo demonstrating proper "banana kick technique." The contact comes with top of the foot.

IMG_2773.JPG

Β  Β  Β Our daughters homeschool and get entertainment from their screens, so it's really important to get them outside and teach them a love for the outdoors, even if it is just our landlords' backyard.

IMG_2775.JPG

Β  Β  Β Look at this primo foot-eye coordination. It's important for us adults to never forget the value of playing and it's role in a healthy and happy life. If you're lucky enough to see someone slip and fall in the mud, it might even just make your day.

Excellent engaging activity!

I remember my father trying to teach me some moves also and I was always upset because he was much better than me. So I gave up playing the ball with him. But, instead, he taught me fishing and I still love that....but again, I haven't been fishing over the last 2 years because I am not comfortable with taking these beings their life...
Ok, don't want to sound creepy....lol!

I love the nature surrounding your house and the smile on the little girl's face, that pure happiness!

I used to fish a lot as a kid, but can't imagine doing it now for similar reasons. We do have some aquatic snakes in the canal next to the backswamp, or backyard I mean. Thanks for stopping by. !ENGAGE 45

I've met a friend at the seaside once and he was chasing for snakes to sell them to an Italian guy who loved to cook them...I wonder how they taste, but I am not sure if I'd ever want to eat any.

Thank you for sharing happy moments from your life. It's genuine and pure!

This brings back memories of my dad, brother and I playing football... 😊
The love for the sport comes from him and even though I didn't do anything with soccer when I started dancing, if I got the chance I would definitely have enjoyed the sport.

And enjoy the time with the kids 😊. Those girls are really very talented by the way.

Gonna have to give Monkey-B a new football nickname, like Monkey-dona B-iego or something. We are glad we have enough within our household to entertain ourselves, the social isolation here is brutal. Hope we get to see you two soon, weekend lockdowns are over. !ENGAGE 30

Hahaha that's a good addition to the name and know what you mean. Am at home at the moment and miss the socializing that comes with an office.

Yes, so glad they're over. I'll ask @rarej when he's free and we'll set a date 😊.

Yeah, just be careful kicking the ball in the canal, there is all kinds of Amazonia wildlife in there. Not sure what you have to watch out for in Japan... !ENGAGE 10

I guess the main risk would be kicking the ball from the park out to the main road or possibly accidentally hitting a car. πŸ˜†

That looks like some excellent time well spent and one happy little girl!

Yeah my buddy in Phnom Phen was getting worried the lockdowns would drag on forever.

He messaged me a few days ago and said things are getting much better now so I'm happy for you, him...and the whole country.

Thailand is going through it's third and worst wave of the covid...maybe you've heard. So not really sure how things will turn out a month from now. But at the moment my adventure around the country is being put on hold and instead we are enjoying a more domestic life here in Koh Phangan.

Just wanted to stop by and see what you've been up to.

Have a great day and thanks for sharing!

Cambodia says they're gonna open visas on arrival, or at least easy tourist visas in the fourth quarter of this year. Shame is we are so anxious to leave Suriname we can't wait that long. We'll likely try and settle somewhere else before then. Thanks for stopping by, stay safe over there. !ENGAGE 65

I guess everything has its upside :<)

I am looking forward to a game of football ( with kids and adults ), this afternoon. I played ball almost daily, as a kid, even though I have never been subscribed to a football club. Good memories and it keeps you fit.

Good luck, take care of yourself on the field. Our bodies don't have all the same muscles they did when we played often. It is fun to get out and just focus on fun and recreation sometimes. Monkey-B begs for it all the time, and I wish I could oblige her on every occasion. !ENGAGE 25

You never know, I am impressed with how fast she has picked up the basics. I'm able to blast if from a distance, and she can now stop it with one foot most of the time. !ENGAGE 15

I so agree with you here. The kids are super bored, no school, no friends, and no outdoor activities. It’s very important that parents be their friends and give them enough time so that they don’t go negetive.

We do get annoyed hanging out with only each other at times, but that's when it's time to shake things up and kick the ball around or something else to hold onto sanity for another day. !ENGAGE 20

I love those action shots. Looks like Monkey B has some athletic skills. It's great that you are distracting her in a healthy way.

I would've never guessed she would be a natural talent at football, but she never ceases to amaze me. A couple of times I have to go full-clown mode when everybody gets too homesick. Even stranded with aims of going to the USA, I also am homesick for Cambodia. I can't even imagine having to live in the USA for a number of years after having already lived here 2 years. !ENGAGE 15

Good activity with the kids. My girls love to play ball too but we don't have the space to let them play freely at home. And learning how to fall is indeed important with or without insurance.

It is so nice finally have a large play space for the kids, especially since our studio apartment is incredibly small, and there constant lockdowns and curfews here. Learning how to fall isn't in any school curriculum, but it's one of life's most important things to know how to properly. !ENGAGE 20
