Happy Juneteenth!

I must admit I was not aware of this holiday until recently. To the best of my recollection I have zero recall of this day being taught during my coursework with our public education system. Nor do I have any memory of this day being taught in any college level coursework.

What is Juneteenth?

Juneteenth celebrates the oldest national celebration of the end of slavery within the United States.

My intent is not to disregard or negate this period of history that was a worldwide trade, but to place slavery into a different and up to date perspective.

In this lifetime I have experienced slavery both mentally and physically. Those of you who live in the United States should be familiar with, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Yet, are we really free? Do we have Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness?

Or do we have the illusion of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness? I am physically and mentally beholden to a job, why? To pay my bills, to pay my taxes, to pay my insurance, to pay my mortgage, to pay my rent, to pay my medical bills, to pay my prescription drugs, to pay my utilities, to pay, to pay, to pay, to pay!

Yes I am a physical and mental slave to a debt called, “INTEREST”. It is charged anytime I am approved for a home loan, a car loan, a credit card, etc. Anytime, I take out a loan on anything I am paying off interest and I will keep paying until it is paid off. What are the consequences of not paying? Bankruptcy and/or a negative credit report, lost of a home, loss of transportation, loss of family through divorce. Money is, the last time a looked, one of the top 3 reasons couples fight and eventually part ways.

So the question I have asked myself since I was in my twenties is this, “How do I create financial freedom? During my twenties I had a friend who owned his own business. I desired that for myself. His favorite saying was, “When you have a job you are, “(J)ust (O)ver (B)roke.”

A job makes someone else wealthy and business makes you wealthy. I realized that then and I realize that now. I also know once I retire inflation is going to grow at a rate of 3-5 percent and living on a fixed income will be a struggle. I am actively changing this situation. I am becoming the person that is changing this situation by growing into the person who is living his dreams and fulfilling his purpose in life.

It is time for Paul Bowyer to get off the spot, dime, etc. and become the person who is a change maker.
