1. Coin Story

Australian kookaburras are believed to form a mating pair for life. Both the male and the female kookaburra share the incubation duties and they both care for the young.

The kookaburra breeding season runs from August to
January, which is the start of spring through until mid-summer in the Southern Hemisphere. The female kookaburra tends to lay two eggs which take up to twenty four days to incubate.

Kookaburras are carnivores, they are part of the kingfisher family of birds. The diet of a kookaburra consists of small birds, frogs, insects, small mammals and lizards. We have a number of kookaburras that live in our back garden, one day I saw one swoop down and pick up a baby lapwing bird. It was brutal and sad to watch, but it was nature at work.

On another day in our garden I saw two kookaburras swoop down and attack a carpet python that was slithering across my lawn.

Kookaburras have even been known to catch venomous snakes much larger than themselves. Like all kingfishers, kookaburras employ a 'sit and wait' technique of hunting.

5. Coin Protection

Each 1oz Fine Silver coin is stored in an original mint plastic capsule. It is highly recommended that you keep your silver proof coins in their capsules, to protect them from tarnish, or scratches on the coin that could result from handling the coin.

When handling your silver coin, for extra protection use a pair of cotton gloves. Cotton gloves protect your coins from oils in your fingers that may cause discoloration, damaging the finish of the coin. I have formed the habit to use cotton gloves even when I am handling coins in their plastic capsules.
