School of Steem - Upvoting and Downvoting
I know that I have already written about upvoting and downvoting on STEEM, but I found it very important and I still think that there are a lot of people that don't understand how upvotes and downvotes work.
What is Upvote on STEEM?
Generally, upvote is very similar to "thumb up" on Facebook, but with one very important difference... Upvoting someone on FB is getting up his EGO and upvoting on STEEM you are rewarding the author with cryptocurrency, aka real money, for his work invested in creation. Okay, I have simplified too much the answer and be subjective about FB... :) Anyways, upvotes are important on STEEM because you can earn crypto by upvoting others!
One more thing, the upvote value is directly connected to 2 things. One is the number of your staked STEEM coins and/or the number of staked TOKENS in a tribe where you vote... And the other thing is your current Voting Power (check lower in the article).
What is Downvote?
The downvote is the opposite of upvote on STEEM because it takes out the part of the rewards of the author. So, it's more difficult to compare it with YT or FB downvote, because it's "money involved". After the hard fork, everyone has 2 FREE downvotes daily (doesn't consume your Voting Power (VP)). You don't earn anything by downvoting, but, in some way you are protecting the "rewards pool" if you downvote SPAM, plagiarism, etc... And also, downvoting can be used as a filter of good and bad posts... After the implementation of downvotes, we have more quality posts on trending and hot pages...
What is the best way to upvote people?
You can upvote as long as you have voting power (VP), but it is not advisable... You can't earn zillion USD by upvoting day/night... As your VP drops, your upvote value less money, so, if you can upvote more times per day, you should try to keep your VP over 80-85%...
Voting in Tribes
As you may know, today we have many tribes on STEEM blockchain and it has opened a totally new view on earning on STEEM. For example, if you are writing is some of the tribe websites (https://www.ctptalk.com, https://www.palnet.io, https://www.steemleo.com), your post is automatically published on that tribe AND on main STEEM blockchain (it is visible on Steemit.com, or Steempeak.org, busy.org, etc). So, by doing that you will EARN STEEM coins, but also tribe tokens where you have published your post!
But, wait... That is not the end... For example, you can publish your post on Steemit.com, but you can put in reserved tags of tribes and your post will be published in those tribes! By doing that, your post can be visible in 3-4, or more tribes at the same time... But, please be aware that there are niche tribes and you can't post for example SteemMonsters post in Sports tribe...
...and that will be the next lesson of School of Steem... I will try to introduce you to some of the most popular tribes on Steem blockchain and their specific tags... I hope that will help you to maximize your earnings with your awesome content!

Steemit has one very bad thing... When I hit that WriteNew post icon, it's fill up all fields with my last post text... I have changed the title, and I thought that I have clicked in my txt window, and click ENTER... but, no it was still in the browser window :) .... The post went LIVE... looool

What's your take on the rise of downvotes from new accounts? ^_^ There seems to be a lot of them going about lately.
I suppose that they don't understand how it works here on STEEM and that's it... For example, I have Steem account for movie trailers and reviews, and I get every day few downvotes because people don't like certain movie/TV show... :) And not because they don't like the post...
The only thing that we can do is to educate them...

Upvoting and downvoting looks simple, but on Steem it's a little bit different... And it looks that we have to talk more about it...
