Do you remember those days when everyone was complaining that curation isn't even a thing anymore?

Well guess what. Three full weeks under the new rules implemented along with HF21 and while curation is obviously a thing again, some people still don't get it.

I visit the new section every day. Every single day, more or less during this time of the day to find something interesting to read. Those undervalued and hidden gems that deserve to reap the rewards so to speak.

I am not loaded with hundreds of thousands of SP but my vote is decent to put a smile on the face of a newcomer.

But the result is pretty much always the same: Depressing.

I mean seriously now? A photo with some mango without a single line describing something? Anything? Or how about that stolen image of some random hot girl from the web? Do you really think that people will stop by and cast their vote on that shit?

There were of course quite a few long posts written in Chinese...Arabic...Spanish too. I am sorry but I have no clue what they were all about as I don't speak these languages. Maybe these were the hidden gems we were looking for, I don't know. So I'll let the native speakers do their job...

Other than that, the most interesting post I found was...@steemitblog's. Really.

Who would have thought about a month ago, that even bot owners would shift into manual curation? Nobody, right? Some of them all the way manually actually. Needless to name names...

What I am trying to say and miserably fail is, that you need to produce something better guys. Give people reasons to upvote you. This is your chance. There are hungry curators out there. There are curation projects. There are average users...who are eager to consume and be entertained. But not like that....ffs.

Do you see some very popular authors out there who have massive rewards despite Steem is sitting at 0.16$? It's because they deserve it. It's because they are persistent and even though they are not professionals they act as if they were.

And they will continue to do so, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and every single day. Because those upvoters out there expect a standard quality. It might sound as a burden, but I rest assure you that they enjoy what they are producing.

So if you think that under #Newsteem "guidelines" you have a chance to earn something or this is your way to contribute to the ecosystem, I am sorry to say it...but you won't find the support you are looking for.

Everyone want to protect their investment and in order to attract new users / investors and eventually witness Steem thrive according to its potential, we need to maintain a decent quality.

It seems to me that many people don't realize that this is a great opportunity for them.

It is a great opportunity for all of us actually.

Have a great one.

Cheers!

We let the milkers and the shitposters run off our content creators.

It is going to take some time to turn that around.

I agree, just posting something doesn't work.

Find a person crying about large stakeholders 9 out of 10 I've looked at are posting pure shit like links or bad english and stolen photos.

We can clean up now, while it is slow.

Every single day I have the same frustration...I really do want to follow new accounts, help them...the very same way people helped me when I first came here, but seeing this...

And I wonder, can't they understand that this tactic isn't working? Some of them are level 50+ which means they have spent some time around...

Well it is a conditioned response. When we were not curating people found easy ways to collect rewards. Those who were trying got frustrated and left.

Now we will have to keep up the curation efforts long enough to turn that around.

I keep on doing what I always did and never forget that we suppose to be a social media platform and community. Sometimes we are in the mood to socialize, sometimes we chat, comment, just vote, autovote or curate manually.
Just keep going and enjoy “good enough” posts or shake your heads for the shitposters.
This place doesn’t show me anything different than real life. I therefore prefer to focus what keeps us alive : engagement in one or the other way. I need to get used to take advantage of my downvote power, even though I never felt comfortable using it. Clean up time is needed indeed @whatsap

Speaking my mind actually @mammasitta.

Who said that you can't have fun and at the same time be creative somehow? But really now? A blur photo with five mango?

I need to get used to take advantage of my downvote power, even though I never felt comfortable using it

Same goes with me...I don't feel comfortable using my downvote power. Done it on some over bid botted posts but other than that not much. And not because I am afraid of retaliation or anything of the sort...it's just me. I guess I need to forge myself a bit

I've been downvoting since the beginning, I've had a few retaliations, not many.

Hahah! Oh well! Those blurry mangos might feel like “art” for them :)

I feel confused many times when I see those photos of those so called trendy women/ girls on Instagram with horrific long fake fingernails and plastic fantastic appearance. Some like it, some don’t.
Who has the better taste ? Me or them ?

You know what I mean? It’s all a question of taste.

But anyways : Let’s downvote more 👻 😁🤪

Just good enough and decent are words I've been using lately.

At some point I hope we can peel some energy away from our own internal fights and focus on the outside world.

What do you mean with “outside world”?

Let’s focus on the law of attraction and believe that the bad content will just vanish and the awesome ( just good enough and decent is simply not enough anymore) creative people will stay , quality jumps in our faces that we can continue building a powerful community.
I have to admit that using appics changed my content drastically because the focus lays on the image illusion first of all. I try to find a balance though and still write more “decent” and appropriate articles......once in a while 😝

BTW nice to Still see you being active 🙌😁😘

I mean a little more focused attraction than that.

I think we are ready to see a bit more action in the altcoin world and many feel Steem is a failed project. I would like to see less energy spent fighting about the best use of steem and more energy put into the promotion and attraction of new users. :)

hahaha i made a similar post a couple of hours ago and tomorrow it will have a part 2 in which you said the exact things i wanted to refer to :P

I had to manually search in the new page for almost a year, i had other ways to find quality authors, so i said maybe now with the hf things have changed. Turns out not a lot changed in the mindset of many authors. New page is a fucking chaos

Chaos might not describe what's really going on there...

Warning: Not a Moon-boy Reply

Allow me to provide constructive criticism, which ultimately might be proved wrong in a few months, but at the very least provides a balancing of perspectives.

The problem I find is that Steem neither has the size nor the gains to intrigue content producers. The most popular crypto content producers do have a presence here, but it is only for dropping links to their original content from Youtube or some other place.

Authors would like to be able to post their books here page by page, but revenue-wise, that's a definite no. The 7 day revenue window and the odds of even getting anything in that 7 days is so rough that its really not worth it.

Publish0x is just as rewarding, sometimes more and it is without all the financial investment from content producers and viewers. Plus, and this is a big plus, its not hierarchical at all. Here, there are big fish and little fish, but on Publish0x and Minds, everyone is on an even social position, which is much more pleasant.

Logically, if you are a content producer, you would use all of these tools, including Steem. But, Steem was an experiment to see if stake-based content filtering/rewarding would work, and I would argue that we might be seeing that it is not working.

To be fair, Steem provides certain capabilities that Minds and Publish0x do not provide. For example, you can successfully build an organization or business on Steem by utilizing delegation strategies and tokenization strategies with Steem Engine. You really can't do that on Minds or Publish0x.

However, the flexibility of these organizations and businesses have greatly reduced because enough whales and orcas wish to keep curation within the narrow use case of upvoting quality content. So, creative uses of delegations and upvotes are not welcome. I am not simply referring to bidbots here, for example, some of these whales and orcas dislike the SBI project.

Cool concepts involving SMT/SE tokens that could potentially reward book authors with recurring rewards would likely be stifled by the post-HF21 downvote culture. This means that it will likely become even less likely to motivate book authors to release their works page by page as posts on Steem. And due to new reward thresholds, micro-rewards are less rewarding.

Just food for thought.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

The problem I find is that Steem neither has the size nor the gains to intrigue content producers.

For start, we could highlight the efforts of our own authors and content producers.

Authors would like to be able to post their books here page by page, but revenue-wise, that's a definite no. The 7 day revenue window and the odds of even getting anything in that 7 days is so rough that its really not worth it.

I've seen a lot of times people who contact the author and ask them to write a comment under that very same post and they upvote the comment full force, in order to reward the post itself.

To be fair, Steem provides certain capabilities that Minds and Publish0x do not provide.

And we should take advantage of that!!!

Cool concepts involving SMT/SE tokens that could potentially reward book authors with recurring rewards would likely be stifled by the post-HF21 downvote culture.

I highly doubt that. Everyone understands that a book author needs to present his art to the audience chapter by chapter and not a 300 page book at once.

I think we should focus on all the good changes that were implemented.
Thoughts?

You're right. When I'm making content I try to hold to the same standard that would be in more competitive space like Youtube. There is seriously like a general step down on quality of Steemit articles/videos compared to other platforms. We need good content on the platform to attract new users as well. Who wants to switch to a social media website with low quality posts?

Who wants to switch to a social media website with low quality posts?

Nobody. But that's the mentality of some people around here. "Fuck it...I'll drop a stolen photo and a few losers might gimme some pocket change..."

If we want to see Steem among the top names, there is no room for such behaviors...But that's just me...

@mindtrap,
I stopped reading NEW section, but started reading #NewSteem tag section instead of that! This is better, and hope people might not abuse this section for rewards from certain whales who is actively support this tag! Moreover, created a bot program which can be used to reward this section with manual curation (By comment commands)! Hope to test the bot with flags, to remove spammers from #NewSteem tag as well!

Cheers~

Really? Didn't know specific people were curating specific tags.

I am 100% sure that newcomers don't know what #newsteem is. In fact they don't even know what steem is at all that's why I was looking at the new section.

I'll start browsing through #newsteem tag as well from now on. Thanks for stopping by my friend!

Professional content writers are going to be attracted elsewhere because of the pay, but this is an excellent place for people to find their voice before going professional.

Personally I think the blogging aspect of Steem will be completely eclipsed by other dapps on the blockchain. We can do pretty much anything here with much more lenient resource caps than other chains.

Tbh I enjoy blogging really much. It’s like an anxiolytic to me. But completely eclipse? Moght go down like 90%+ but I think there will always be a little corner for us bloggers. At least I hope so
