Coronavirus News, Analysis, and Opinion:
Despite warnings about the risks of superspreader events, the government allowed religious festivals to go ahead, drawing millions of people from around the country, along with huge political rallies—conspicuous for their lack of COVID-19 mitigation measures. Modi’s actions in attempting to stifle criticism and open discussion during the crisis are inexcusable.
With all the ambient stress, it’s easy to see how a conflict can escalate. And conflicts on board are escalating fast. As NBC News reported earlier this week, airlines have referred more than 1,300 unruly passenger cases to the FAA since the start of 2021. In a normal year, we’d see around 150 referrals. Just four months into this year — and with passenger volume still barely half of 2019 numbers — we’ve already seen nearly 10 times the normal number of incidents for a whole year.
What’s causing these incidents? Overwhelmingly, it’s passengers who refuse to wear masks.

“There are two broad ways to cleanse today’s imbalance – fiscal/monetary orthodoxy with a very deep domestic recession or inflation to revalue assets and devalue liabilities. This is precisely why there is scant domestic focus on today’s imbalances – a weaker dollar is the cure, and scares nobody. It is the foreigners who are growing nervous.”

Right now, it's basically the Titanic. We're like, you know, in this in the middle of this slow sink, we have a band playing on the deck telling everybody it's fine. And meanwhile, as I've said, you know, Donald Trump's running around trying to find women's clothing and get on the first lifeboat.
“Mr. Mayor, you know from your consultants that there is a substantial portion of your police force that you cannot rely on ... to report misconduct by other officers?” asked attorney Gittes.
“Based on the findings of the Matrix report, yes, that is correct,” the mayor replied.
When staff from the National Republican Congressional Committee rose to explain the party’s latest polling in core battleground districts, they left out a key finding about Trump’s weakness, declining to divulge the information even when directly questioned about Trump’s support by a member of Congress.
Trump’s unfavorable ratings were 15 points higher than his favorable ones in the core districts, according to the full polling results… Nearly twice as many voters had a strongly unfavorable view of the former president as had a strongly favorable one.
