Curating tribes when front-ends are down

Curating tribes when front-ends are down.jpg

The front-ends of several hive-engine tribes are down for a couple of days already. This is pretty annoying for the owners of these front-ends and also for the people posting and curating. Of course, it's still possible to see the posts on other front-ends like peakd or hive.blog but if you have a nice stake and you want to curate in Sports or oneup, it's getting difficult to do so without being able to access the front-end of the tribe. Maybe like me you have specialised accounts for certain communities and you don't want to miss curation rewards for these tribes.

Curating on tags

A tribe front-end will show a post when the necessary tag has been added. If a post carries the #oneup tag, it will be shown in the 1up.zone front-end and will be able to collect oneup tokens. In order to curate in oneup, we will do the same than the 1up.zone front-end. We will search for the posts that carry the #oneup tag and simply upvote them.

I expect that it's only the front-ends that are not working but that the smart contract behind the tribe still works. So even if the front-ends are down, you should still be able to generate author and curation rewards for the token.

Using peakd to curate tribes

I like to use peakd to curate tribes in such situations. There are different ways of doing it. I will show here how I proceed.

  • Click on search
    The search menu opens

image.png

  • Enter the tag I want to curate
After entering the tag, click search and then under topics the tag

image.png

  • Filter results
I have now all the posts with the tag I'm looking for. In order to have an idea what to curate I filter the posts according to their age with the most recent posts first. The advantage of having the posts in chronological order is that I will once see posts that I have liked already and I will know that I went trough all the posts available.

I believe this is a nice and not too complicated way to curate posts when the front-ends are not working.

There is still a lot of work to be done on these new hive-engine front-ends and I hope only that somebody is actually working on it :-)

@achim03. The King thanks thee again for a wonderful explanation on how to work on front-ends. After reading your @Liotes post we were unable to post to @oneup.

Yes the oneup front-end is out of order unfortunately. This is a way around so that we can still collect some of these fancy oneup tokens :-).

Thanks for stopping by!

Yes, it's really strange to see the front-ends so long offline. I imagine that the tribe owners must get crazy :-).

I tried this using the ctpcontent hashtag and it was very easy and quick for finding posts to curate. Then I can just go down the results and find the best ones to comment on and share.

Exactly, it's possible to search for any tag that you want and curate accordingly.
Thanks for your comment!

I don't get it, man. If it's the new outposts that have issues (which both oneup and splintertalk are, and are down), why is ctptalk still working? It's also an outpost. Or not an outpost anymore? Strange things happen. Is sportstalk an outpost too?

All the front-ends that are down are outposts that are hosted by the hive-engine team. CTPtalk is also an outpost but @jongolson and @blainjones are hosting the front-end on their own servers.

That makes sense! I didn't know the details. But that looks quite bad then...

I just saw in discord that aggroed said that the developper who is responsible for outposts is getting married lol.

Congratulations? Well, FB & co went down for a couple of hours. We surely need more decentralizion.

thanks for the info.
I have never used the search feature on peakd.

The search feature can be very useful for curation purposes. I use it quite regularly also because I have plenty of accounts and it's great that the search results remain when switching accounts.

I realized that an outpost front-end was down last night but I didn't realize it was spread out to most outpost front-ends. While the tag can give you the posts, is there a way to replicate the community feed on PeakD?

You won't get the same feed because in the outpost trending will show according to the value in the token of the tribe whereas on peakd trending will be defined by hive value.

I wasn't specifically looking for posts sorted by the token value but more as an easy way to find in ascending order of time based on those you follow. I generally prefer to look at the specific front-end and look at things from a time field.

Yes you are right it's much easier to find the people you follow on the front-ends. I couldn't manage to filter according to tag only the people I follow. Maybe it's possible, just couldn't find out how yet :-)

Thanks, this is really helpful in moments like this. I hope the issue is resolved soon and we can use our native frontend again.

That's a great guide, with pictures, much clearer than the useless comments I've been dropping on a few people's posts!

I have actually tried to explain it in words and failed lol. That's why I thought some screen shots would come in handy :-)

Great information on making it while Hive-Engine is down. Still, I wonder how Leo Finance succeeds to keep up their services as their token is still a HE one...

I think it has to do with the hosting. All outposts that are down are hosted by hive-engine team. CTPtalk and Leofinance host their front-ends on their own servers.

Do you have a good reference describing the author/curator/tribe interactions? I have been posting on peakD. But noticing I have more voting power if on splintertalk.io. SPT vs hive. Should I vote from both platforms?

When you are on a tribe front-end you will see the voting power in the tribe token. For example on splintertalk you will see your voting power in SPT. When you vote on a post from whatever front-end, you vote in hive-power but if for example you vote on a post without spt tag, your voting power in spt will stay the same. Therefore you will have higher voting power in spt than in hive, simply because you gave more votes in hive than spt. It's quite complex. Hope it's a bit clearer :-)

Thanks for the info. It implies that I should vote on some content from each tribe each day. Since vote rewards refill daily and are a use or lose system.

You are right but if you do that, you will end up with very little hive power. That is the reason why a lot of people create separate accounts for each tribe. Like that they can vote all their votes on tribes and use their main account to vote on hive.

I have had to beg and borrow Hive Power just to keep enough Resource credits to play splinterlands and rent cards. https://giftgiver.site/ works well if they have funds to delegate. I currently stake all my hive to hive power to try and fix that problem.

This is great! For future events everybody will know how to still be able to curate.

I would like to ask @solymi to pass by and leave some PIZZA
